Mera The Lucky Kitty

Here I am relaxing in bed. Don't I look great?

Mera@cat_aunty went to the vet for some dental work. The vet said he had NO cavities. THAT is one lucky kitty in my book as he is getting on in years. He also had a clean bill of health from the last blood test that she took of him.

He had inflamed gums though and they had been giving him a lot of grief. They bleed spontaneously and so he had to have some work done on them. The great shock was that he had hyperplasia, two growths next to his airways which may grow but the vet did not want to remove them as this may lead to severe blood loss and they may come back again!

He has 10 days of antibiotics and prednisolone for the swellings. Other than that, he is a little fed up of being cooped up :) Behave lah Mera! Life would be so much better for you.

Some community cats who are immunosuppressed tend to have gum problems like feline stomatitis or chronic gingivitis. One of my ex-stray cats (tested negative for FIV and Felv) have persistant gum problems and to date, several teeth removed. He is very young-only 6 or 7 yrs. Condition is stable-under Dr L's care.
Stomatitis is a nightmare-steriods relieve problem immediately but only for a time and then not effective eventually.

Hooray for the good news! He is in general good health because of Cat Aunty and all his caregivers' attention and love for him.
