Toro Update - Hospitalisation Day 1

Toro is now in hospital, on an IV drip. He has a catheter in his leg so the fluids will be given continuously. His blood test found his creatinine levels to be 20 and his BUN to be 120. He had an xray and the vet found white dots in his kidneys which he suspected to be calcium deposits. He was also dehydrated. His bladder was ok so he was not blocked. He has acute kidney failure.

The vet could not find what was wrong as his diet did not warrant such results. Then he spoke about melamine and I told him that Toro ate Nutro before and that was found to be contaminated with melamine. But then Bujang and Ms Akira also had Nutro and I now think I should bring both cats to the vet to get some tests done.

The vet was not optimistic about his chances of recovery but we would know ore after his ultra sound, which would be done on Tuesday.The vet said Toro would have to be in hospital for a few days, at most a week.

I will be seeing him tomorrow with Cousin R with his bowl, his pillowcase blanket and his toy. I think I will bring the Walthams Renal as his kidneys are already compromised. Thank goodness I brought his stuff toy with me and now at least he has that in his cage.

We are bruffers after all...

These 2 just had a little spat and now they are lying here together...easy as pie :) I had to make sure the top of this cabinet is quite empty so they boys can sleep on the warm surafce when they want to. Bujang is in his favourite spot and Toro likes putting his head on my router sometimes .

Right now he is warming his tail on it :)

and he did. Bujang and Megat like opening this little cabinet just to see what is inside although the inside never changes :) It was a surprise that Bujang did not insist on staying on the cat tree. If not Toro would get it for sure :))

I will survive :)

Toro vomitted again this morning at about 5 . I heard him painfully (to my mind) retching. I left him alone to his business. He is smart not to vomit in bed or on his own blanket (we leave that to Bujang) However when Bujang does something like this, he would announce it and insist that someone (usually me) cleans it up immediately.

Then, the business over, he sat further apart and groomed himself, ran about the darkness and then plonked himself on the floor near the bed. I decided by this time to get up to clean up after him and having noticed me moving, he jumped up the bed, head-butted my face and purred a good morning. I did not protest as he was a good kitty for vomitting in the bathroom rug instead of the bed.

It was not undisgested food, rather a clear liquid. I do not know what this means but I don't think its dangerous as he was very cheerful and ate breakfast hungrily. And yes, he did pee in his bins :)

Which leaves me to just give him the rest of his antibiotics with an easy mind and next week, to get the anti-plaque toothpaste. I will deal with the toothbrusing issue then. I am only thankful that it is Toro and not saber-toothed-Bujang or vice-mouthed- Megat.

The boys are all on grandma's bed as she has got new sheets and the windows are open to the breeze :) Looking at them here, no one would think they battle each night like 2 wrestlers from WWE.
