Help is on the way ..

for the troubled community cats in Putih's block. Tiga Dot was neutered 4 days ago by M. Terror Kitty will be on his way to the vet for neutering at about 8 pm. We hope this would be a successful trapping by the caregiver at his block. I am quite glad that Cousin R has made friends with the caregiver M and her friend, also M. After this operation, we hope to hear less squalling and a more peaceful co-existence of all the cats. M neutered Tiga Dot at her own expense so we would try to share the expenses as neutering can be an expensive business, if done alone.

PS: Terror Kitty was caught by another caregiver T and sent to the vet for neutering last night. T is a very skilled at trapping and we are all grateful for that.

Tuesday fears...

Oh dear...I fank my furry lucky stars I live wif the amigos...oh dear...
Cat 1
Cat 2
Cat 3
This evening when I was taking Bujang for his walk, I met someone I knew from work. It happened that this girl actually lives with these 3 cats and her family actually has 8 cats in the flat. I met her mother who said that her husband wanted to put the adult cats near the market!!! I had tried to talk the lady out of it and since my Mother Tongue is not what it should be, I was very glad to meet the daughter.
I told the daughter that I may be bale to help with getting the cats sterilised but she has to tell her father that abandoning cats anywhere is a very bad idea. He will be fined $10 000 and get 12 months jail. She was very shocked to hear this. I also said that her family should not release their cats in the wildbunch area as I do not want them to be endangered by such a thoughtless action.
I told her to advise her family to keep their cats or get the young kittens adopted. She realised that people like kittens more than adult cats. She told me her male cats are noisy at mating time! Aiyoh!! I told her that once her cats are sterilised, no one will be noisy and they would live rather peacefully. Anyway I said she should talk to me as soon as she has made some decisions about sterilisation. I further reminded that if her father did abandon the cats, her cats may get killed by abusers or maimed or cut up or just killed by vehicles.
I know this may seem very cruel to say to a teenager but it is best that she knows the truth of the matter. I hope the family makes the right decision. Posted by Picasa

After the V_E_T...

Its grooming.... and then its..

Zzzzzz.....

Zzzzz...and

more zzzzz....

The vet said that they would call me about 3 pm or 4 pm to take him home. But they rang at 2.45 pm and told me that Rocket, like his name, was already awake and I could take him home. I was surprised as the other kitties woke up only about 5 or 6. When I got to the vet, he was already wide awake and all ready. Dr K asked me to take him out of his carrier as she said he growled at her and he growled at the assistant too. She asked me if he was naughty but I told her that Tanaka was really an angel compared to Bujang. He did not fuss when I took him out and she explained what she had done to him.
He was quiet all the way home and once out of his carrier, he walked into the bedroom, stared at his surroundings, took a look under the bed where the scratcher was and then jumped onto the bed and groomed himself. No sound and no fuss. Then he fell asleep. I guess everything was where it should be and he was quite sure he was in the right house :)

Caution..OUCH! That must hurt!

OUCH!

Cat Wrangling Friday

Agent 007 - the one that got away...

V came today to help me catch the school cats to be sent for sterilisation. I wondered how the whole operation would look like for the whole of this morning and spent quite a lot of time looking out for the 5 cats. I told the cleaners not to feed them and warned the P and the AM about the whole operation. V said it would be the best thing as he did not want to get held up by red tape instead of spending the time catching the cats. The whole operation took quite a short time, about 1 hour but the wait for Agent 007 took all of 2 hours! She disappeared after her two sisters were caught in the cat trap and never came back although V said, she would be back a little later.

We waited and I called and searched to no avail. V even looked up at the trees just in case she had climbed up one without us seeing her. Finally we had to call it a day as it was starting to rain. When my P got to know that we had not managed to catch the little kitty, her first words were, "But wouldn't the cat be lonely without the others?" I had also felt that but I thought she would know her way around the compound as this is the only home she knows and she would be quite safe. I left her some food where I know she would go and I hope she would not feel too lonely during the weekend. I think Cik Mina has taught her well and she is an A+ student.

Cik Mat waiting at the gazebo with me...

Cik Mat saw me and started to follow me about. He is the most friendly of all the cats and is not afraid of me. He would follow me when I call him and we had had established this routine and trust for about 3 weeks. He was kind of suspicious when he saw V but V said I should act nonchalant. Once he relaxed, V came with the cat trap and in no time at all, Cik Mat walked right into it. :)

Cik Mat snarling at the sight of me as though saying that THIS would be the last time he trusts a two-legged-no-good-creature!

I tried to tell Cik Mat that once he is neutered, we would release him back into the compound but he was in no mood to listen. I can understand his distress but he is the only male among 4 females and so his fate is sealed already.

Cik Mina and 3rd daughter knew that something was up...

Cik Mina looking over her shoulders, wary of the scent of danger...

Cik Mina in a carrier and on her way for spaying...

Cik Mina is truly a warrior Queen. She defended her territory and her kittens with an iron claw and tried to fight with V. She snarled at him and even once, she jumped up, her tail upright and her whole body hissed her dislike and warning. V very calmly netted her. She did not go anywhere near the cat traps but she defended her 2 kittens that were in the traps already. She is truly an amazing mother!

The 2 sisters who were too curious for their own good! The one on the right is the more timid one and therefore much smaller than the rest.

The tabby ...

The calico...

V told me that he would send the cats for sterilisation tomorrow as it was not a good idea to wait too long. The cats may not be able to cope with their homecoming if they are away too long from the compound. I must say he made very good sense and it would mean they would be away at most a whole week before getting reunited again in their own backyard. I think Cik Mat would be back much sooner. I do not think he would forgive me so easily but I think with time and hunger he may tolerate me for a while longer.
I have to get Agent 007 to the vet before then as V said sometimes when the sterilised cats get back to their backyard, it might be difficult to trap the unneutered ones. The cat grapevine is a formidable one indeed.

Juggling

Banshee under the blanket...

and she was not screaming. She stood so still in the carrier that no one at the vet realised there was a cat underneath the blanket. It took 30 minutes to process the paperwork for sterilisation, FIV testing, deworming, ear-tipping and tattoo, mite and lice check and vaccination. It costs $30.00 to test for FIV.

I exepcted her to struggle a little when I had to put her in the soft carrier but not so. After her dinner, I cleaned her up and immediately scooped her with a towel into the carrier. I think she was just a little shocked so didn't struggle. When she realised she was confined, then there was a whole loud opera.

In the taxi she was very vocal. Then I realised that she was just answering me. Everytime I say something, she would answer. So I decided not to say anything but merely tapped softly on the carrier to reassure her. Of course she did not stay quiet all through the journey but it was a little better.

By the time I got back it was a quarter to eight and so I immediately went to see FB. He saw me from afar and ran for food :) I fed Fb, Calico Mom whom I saw sitting patiently and also Casanova. I have yet to hear Casanova but he came into the scene like a phantom. He ate quite abit of canned food and biscuits. Before he left, FB came to the void deck and saw him. FB started to growl. It was a good thing Casanova decided to leave immediately after dinner.

All in all, I think it has been quite a successful night of juggling.
