Ms Akira and the vet visit

after the vet...

I brought Ms Akira to the vet to ask about him over -grooming again. Dr T said it was overgrooming and the pattern of the baldness does not indicate that she has any hormonal deficiency. The Depredil that D H gave her before is an anti-inflammatory and an extended use could give her diabetes and so would Overid (a steroid for hormones). So Dr T said I should try to persuade her to eat the clomacalm- an anti-depressent to make her calmer and less stressed. The side effects of clomacalm is not as serious as the rest of the alternatives it seems.

So he advised me to make the pill into a powder and mix it with some butter or honey as she is not easy to pill. I will try it tomorrow as Dr T had given her the clomacalm this morning. We shall see how this goes.

Ms Akira on Saturday

Ms Akira cuddling up :)
Quiet Saturdays with my cat Ms Akira is always special...

This morning I thought I would see how the new diet is working. I bought her Royal Canin Sensitivity and she has been eating it for about 3 weeks now.
Its working rather well as her fur is growing on the previous bald spots. The pink sections are where her bald spots were before. She used to lick all her fur off it! Then she had tiny scabs where she had bitten through her skin.
These sections now have fur. They used to be quite bald.
I am quite pleased about this and I am sure Ms Akira is quite relieved. She likes the new kibble and would finish all of it by evening.
I am very encouraged at this new fur growth and also am relieved that I do not have to give her the anti-depression pills. I hope more fur grows soon. Maybe she not stressed out living in her room. It may only be she is allergic to the food I had given her before. *fingers crossed*

Ms Akira's Monday

Yup. She is rather fat. Her fur is soft and luxuriant on the outside but the underside needs work.
Ms Akira is more frisky these days. She is quite vocal about wanting to be out of her princess room and she is eating very well indeed. Her fur is growing again very very slowly. There is a hardly discernible fuzz on her lower limbs but as it is a slow process, she gets to them before they can even make an appearance. I have also put a Felliway diffuser in her room to make her calmer and she has a new cat post that allows her to see the outside. Grandma usually opens a bit of the curtains so she can see the outside and no one from the outside can see her. But she has started licking the underside of her tail :( I would have to ask the vet about the steroids once she starts to bite at her skin though. At present, she has not done that much.

Sunday with Ms Akira

Ms Akira taking time off this Sunday...
Ms Akira overgrooming.
She has barely any fur on her limbs, no to mention her tummy.

Close-up...

Ms Akira has been overgrooming for a few years. It began when she decided to sequester herself in the computer room, away from Megat and Toro and of course Tanaka. She spends most of her time there and she gets out for a few hours at night, usually after the boys are resting. But she is used to her routine of sleeping at 10 and so would scold me endlessly if I so much as extend her time outside.
I tried Omega 3 - saLmon oil and also flax but she is a very difficult cat to give anything to. She would get more stressed up with this tha anything else. She would scratch and yell and generally kick up a fuss. I think she was scared more than anything else. So I give her either Bach Flowers and now Pet Calm.

Locked in!

The locksmith choosing the right tools for the operation
After the whole incident Ms akira was very frazzled and tried to find some comfort
She finally found somewhere safe, away from the noisy locksmith and everything else...
But the experience and the noise was too much for her sensitive self :)

I got a frantic call from Sister N about akira gettting locked inside the computer room. It seemed that Sister S, who is down from KL, had accidentally locked her in. Grandma could not get her out and so became very anxious when she heard Ms Akira yelling from inside the room. The kitties would all go about yelling if they are separated or could not see any beans in the house and grandma forgot this as she tried to open the door. So I came home from work quickly and called the locksmith. It took him 5 minutes to open the door. It cost us $40.00!!

Note: The pics that were here yesterday had disappeared. I had used Picasa to blog. Its very strange.
