Ultrasound worries

Oh dear..oh dear...

The vet told me that Megat's abdomen will be shaved when they do the ultrasound to see the size of his organs. After cat-aunty's questions about GA, I read about how the ultrasound will be done and on of the sites http://www.petplace.com/cats/abdominal-ultrasound-in-cats/page1.aspx has this to say.

Is Sedation or Anesthesia Needed for an Abdominal Ultrasound? Neither sedation nor anesthesia is needed in most patients; however, some pets resent lying on their backs and may require some sedation to allow a diagnostic procedure. If a biopsy needle is used to obtain a tissue sample, a local anesthetic or ultrashort anesthesia is used.

One thing for sure. Megat is a very good patient and can sit at the vet for long hours without moving a muscle. He would even let the technician and vet move him about like a toy cat with hardly any protest. I have seen him offer all his limbs to the vet when its time for a blood test :) So I don't think there would be any GA but i would ask Dr FP anyway.

Megat's test results

Eprex 2000 in syringes...

More tests? Hrumph!!

We finally got the Eprex 2000 and the nurse had put them in syringes for us. He needs one a week and the vet said it is much easier than doing the sub q as the needle is finer. He would get his first one tomorrow as I think I would need Cousin R to help me still. Nowadays he gets very vocal when we have to do the sub q once a week and would protest. But after a minute, he would quieten down. I think the Eprex should not be as uncomfortable for him.
I had made an appointment with Dr FP at ARC balestier next Friday for an ultra sound. This morning I got his urine sample to the vet and she said there were still white blood cells in his urine. She further said that this was usually a sign of swelling in one of his organs. So it seems it is best that he gets an ultra sound. So next Friday we would make our way to Balestier once again. They may also do a blood test or urine test. For a 12-year old, he sure has a lot to get through. we can only hope for the best.

Going to the vet

Hmphf.....6.45 kg from 6.33 kg in one year is not a bad thing....

so Bujang and I thought at the vet. But Dr Su did not think so and refused to be distracted by the fact that he could have been twice his weight but was not :) In a whole year Bujang had gained . 12 kg. Not bad in my books and all the things that I had done for him was worth it. In the first year he went from 3.85 kg to 6.33 and in his 27th month, he went from 6.33 to 6.45 :)

But D Su said with great dtermination and I suspect pity :) , "4 kg is best or 4.5 kg if you don't want him to get diabetes etc etc." So he has 12 months to lose 2 kg. i suspect I should give myself 12 months to lose double that. I was watching Tyra Banks and she had a diet war. A pair of friends etc can enter to work under one fitness guru and then lose their weight. They even had names for themselves. So Bujang and I will be Dynamic Duo or maybe Diet Go-getters or something. Ok. We will have to work on the name and the diet.

Bujang had a slight fever this morning but perked up when I gave him gerbers chicken. After a few spoonfuls, he got up and walked into the living room looking qute well. His fever is not as bad as last years as he only had a slight one this morning and now the fever has passed. Last year he had fever the same night until the next morning.

SB and his ordeal

Resting after ordeal at vet

New collar for SB

Falling asleep while doing the necessary!

What's happening in the loo eh?

Alien descending...

Finally Bujang takes the 1st step

SB rested for some time in the new cage after his ordeal at the vet and cab. He was very quiet in the cab due to the anesthesia (??) . He didn't move a muscle and I had to check on him to see if he was alright and breathing. When we came home, the amigos all ran from us, as expected. I put SB in the new cage and he was very quiet. I figured he may be hungry and so gave him some gerber chicken. He ate half a bottle and rested. I then gave him some biscuits which he couldn't eat but ate a whole can of tuna. I was very glad he had an appetite.

So toilet duties came next and I wheeled him into the litter-bin which the amigos used. He came out of the cage and actually went into the bin without prompting. The funny thing was he lay on the litter while urinating in the bin. I figured he had spent much of his life laying undercover. He did all the necessary big and small and even tried to bury all traces, which made me doubt The Man who said that SB was defecating on concrete.

I then cleaned him up as he had litter all over his face and cleaned his ears. They were full of grease and soot. I suppose I should have told the vet to clean his ears up. I thought all vets would do this as a matter of course. I would know better next time to ask explicitly for things to be done.

The amigos were all horrified that I had brought a strange thing home. I wondered if they knew he is another cat. Toro was the bravest of the 3. He came into the computer room to investigate and I noticed all 3 walked around the house gingerly as though they were afraid some catastrophe would happen. Ms Akira came to see what was happening. Bujang was thorougly disgusted and did not investigate at all until very late at night, when he crawled into the room to see what was happening.

The amigos were very disturbed I guess about this and did not eat their canned tuna dinner at all. That was how I knew how much it affected them. But later I was glad to see that they all sat around the living room looking quite relaxed. When it was time for bed, Toro went into the room as usual but not Bujang. he refused to come down from his basket and I had to go and get him. He sniffed at my hands and face to see if the 'alien' smell was there but I had first thorougly cleaned myself after handling SB. Once satisfied that nothing strange was going to get him, he allowed me to carry him into the bedroom. Bujang, my cat is always the most careful one. :)

I had placed the cage in the living room at night, some distance from MS Akira's cage and no one yelled or screamed at all last night. Even SB did not scream at all. Although he did mew many times, his voice was low and quiet. I guess the screaming was just for my benefit in case I forgot him in the carpark. :)

Window view

There is nothing to see there...
There is nothing to see there either...

The kitties got up on the scratching posts to see what was going on in the world outside of their windows. Unfortunatley it was too hot already and the birds were hiding in the shade. I hope they were looking out for the PL delivery van that was supposed to deliver the new cage for SB yesterday but didn't appear. The delivery person promised me today that the cage would be here before 430 pm. 430pm is the time the vet would call me if she is okay to be brought home today. If she was still groggy then they said I could only bring her back after 6.00 pm. Then I would have to juggle feeding times with the Wild Bunch again I fear.
