Orijen Food Update

Yes, I made a choice to eat Orijen :)

Toro made the choice finally to eat Orijen like the rest of the amigos. I was pleased that I had given him time to reconsider his choices. Before this, he was the only one whom I had given salmon kibble as a night snack. So I guess since he had seen everyone else eating a different kibble, he had decided to join the crew :) Now when I give him a choice, he makes the Orijen one :)
Ms Akira has stopped vomitting the Orijen. She had some trouble changing diets although she did eat Orijen quite enthusiastically. It was only last Saturday that was a problem and now she eats it willingly with no problems.
I have yet to try ANF Holistic as I could not find the brand in the store but I will KIV this in case the amigos decided that they had had enough of the Orijen way :)

Megat's urine test results

I may be a FUSsy kitty...

But I take life lying down :)

Nothing bothers me...well hardly...

His urine test results came in and Dr Soh told me there is no bacteria in his urine. Dr FP told me and I saw for myself that his kidneys and bladder are perfectly fine. His behaviour is normal and he is urinating everyday. I know because he has his own private litter bin in his night cage and in the morning, there would be clumps of pee. Dr FP did ask me if he pees in drips but not so.
I asked Dr Soh where the WBC would come from then. She said he may have FUS or Feline Urologic Syndrome which is a lower urinary tract disorder, including kidney and bladder stones, urinary blockage, and cystitis (infection or inflammation of the bladder). But since his kidneys and bladder are healthy, the vet said we should just keep watch on him.
She asked me if he is under stress and I told her that instead he gives stress to everyone else, frequently trying to beat up Toro. Most of the boys give him a wide berth unless he decides to take on Bujang and only then would Bujang give him some grief.
So the final decision is that everything would be status quo (with the sub q) and he woudld go for his review after his series of Eprex. I just have to put in some water in his wet food and keep a wary eye on the Cat-IT to see that the levels are not low.

Stay safe Minah

Oh dear. Please do not leave me anymore wet food. I don't like it...

I came home early today and saw that someone had left Minah a 400g tin of W. He/she has put all the contents on a small plastic bag and placed the tin beside it. I wonder what the tin was for if all the contents was already on the plastic bag! It was left to decompose under the sun although it was placed in a corner of the void deck.
So I had cleaned up the whole thing and washed the site as I did not want anyone to complain and Minah to get into trouble. I will tell the auntie what had happened and to tell her to lookout for the 'kind' stranger who had done this. I think Minah more than any of the Wild Bunch will get into some trouble as she is visible and very pretty. I notice more people feel that they want to feed her than any of the other cats!

May you have lots of food where you are Gingerbaby...

One of the tamer gingerbabies from cat_aunty's crew was run over this morning.

May you feel warmth and love in heaven gingerbaby where there would be lots to eat and even more space to run about safely.

Tuesday Tricks

I am not sure I like what you're writing about me san...
You can't blame me for that...blame my previous human bean...
The culprit napping away the afternoon...

Things have been happening in the house with no explanation. I had once blogged about finding a pool of urine in my shower stall, near the drainage hole. I had uspected Megat (poor thing) as he sometimes just hits and runs when he goes to the litter. Then there were no more of these incidents. Of course intemittently I would smell ammonia from the kitchen bathroom as this was the most used one but surely not immediately after I had washed and scrubbed it! The mystery was too much for me to unravel. The bathroom in the kitchen is near their 3rd litter and we clean the bathroom twice a week.

THEN.....

This morning at about 7 as I was cleaning out the litter in the kitchen (after I cleaned the 2 litter boxes in the room), I saw Toro entering the bathroom and squatting at the drainage! UHUH! My brain screamed. Caught you! I watched him doing his business after which he calmly tried to bury the evidence. He then took one sniff and walked out.

So thereby hangs a short tale of how you may not be able to re-train a kitty 100% . Toro came to live with us when he was 1.5 years old and he will be 4 in March 2009. Before he came to live with us and before Bujang had re-trained him, he was actually trained to go at the drainage hole. I wonder what had triggered this in his brain and experience that he now sometimes does it at the drainage hole. It does not happen often though. I am only surprised that it did happen :)

New kibble for the amigos

The kibble the amigos seem to like...everyone but Toro that is...

The main ingredients of Origen from Saskatchewan, Canada

I have been on the lookout for kibble that all the amigos would eat. I have had to get 3 different types of kibble that all 5 cats would eat happily. Then I happened onto Origen and it has the BARK seal - Biologically Appropriate Real-Food Kibble. I have been looking for the BARK seal eversince I have been reading the cat magazines that cat_aunty had passed to me early this year. Of course after the Nutro fiasco, I cannot find anymore Nutro Lite and so Bujang and Toro eat Salmon. I suppose the Nutro people have sorted THAT one out.
I think maybe Orijen would be better as it has no grain at all. It also has no gluten, no soy, chemical presevatives, oxides and genetically modified ingredients. It has a great variety of botanicals like chicory root, licorice root, fenugreek, marigold flowers, sweet fennel, peppermint leaf, chamomile flowers, dandelion, summer savory and rosehip! WOW! I think it would taste very good especially with the fruit and vegetables. It has whole eggs with mainly chicken with turkey as the major protein.
What is more even fussy Ms Akira likes it. Everyone likes it but Toro who is a little fussy when it comes to kibble but I think he would come around once he sees everyone eating it. Megat likes it but of course he gets very little as he is on Waltham's Renal. I give it to Minah from the Wild Bunch and she eats it quite happily. This was all from the trial pack that I had to pay about $2.90 for 400g for.
So as I worry about grain and gluten, animal safety and nutrients for the amigos and Wild Bunch, I have decided to get Orijen for everyone but Megat. Yes Toro is still unhappy with it and he has become unhappy with his salmon. He is a tuna kind of guy :)
PS: Yup Sen-chan and crew :) I had updated this food entry and had mistakenly put it under draft last night. :))
UPDATE on Orijen
Although Ms Akira eats it enthusisatically, she had vomiited it out twice, once this morning and once just now at about 1130 pm after she had run willy-nilly through the house. I am not sure if it is the orijen though as she sometimes vomits out her undigested food. She has stopped doing this for some time and today was the first day after so long that she had done ths.
As I could not get the Nutro Lite anymore, I had given her IAMS Healthy Naturals which she eats without complaint but of cos there are some things in IAMs and with IAMS that I would rather not give her. She has gone through many brands from the store that she does not like at all. I will have to see how she reacts during this week with Orijen before making the choice to go back to IAMS. None of the boys (Bujang and Tanaka) have exhibited any such behaviour although I notice they eat less of the kibble. I guess it fills them up more quickly.

Its enough to make a cat laugh...

Toro: I have to tell you that san hardly ever makes anyfing. She only buys stuff fur us and fur grandma and sometimes fur herself. Of cos we lurve her furry much fur buying stuff fur us especially food and medicine and treats :) This quilt she bought some time ago from EP at Simei. I know because she told me that I was a purty as her quilt..hehe...

Goodnight Sunday

One last round of before bedtime grooming...

Megat and san

Yup, this is the best seat in the house although it moves around alot.
I wish san would keep still!

I am a smart kitty no?

This is my scratcher isn't it, isn't it huh?
Sunday makes me sleepy...

Tanaka now has no problems with the washing machine. He has learnt to leave it alone because if not, grandma would put him in the room all by himself. So I was very impressed today to see him minding his own business after playing with his new scratch board. He did not go near the kitchen at all. :)

Trouble in Paradise - drama in 10 takes

Lets Play King of the Castle...

I am King...

You are NOT King...

Gerooff you!

(Megat decided to get off the stand and take cover)

And stay there! This belongs to me. I am KING of this castle...

Zzzzz....

(Megat waited for a bit and then he sneaked up again...away from the King)

The KING: Okay, you can stay there. Just don't try to get up here wif me!

(But just in case, the King shifted a bit and stayed away from Megat)

Meanwhile, the rest of the clan just minded their own business...

Sunday in the Amigo House :)
Toro came by this afternoon when I was at the computer and decided he would do something drastic to Megat. I think this was payback for all the times Megat had intimidated him and fought with him for space. Megat is no pushover and now I know Toro is not one too :) I let the two of them decide and just watched and took pictures of course. It was over very fast but I think the lesson will be a very good one for the both of them.

Wild Bunch news

Minah saying good afternoon...

Yes I am looking well thanks...

I am as flexible as usual...

The sun feels good on my back..

I saw Minah yesterday when I went to buy cat food for the amigos. She greeted me softly and then did not want any biscuits. Rather she wanted me to play for a while. She turned about showing me her new collar. Actually it was an old collar from Ms Akira. I had debated whether I should put a collar on her as the last time she had it, she got into so much trouble. Or rather some @#$% boy had pulled her collar and dragged her along the road (or so the aunty told me). She then had a bloody lip and her leg was hurt. She was so fierce that it was impossible to get her to the hospital. We had put her under close observation and were glad that she recovered in a matter of one week. Looking at her today, no one would have thought she had had such a traumatic episode in her life.
I decided to put the collar because of what had happened to Callie. If something did happen to Minah and someone sees her, then I hope someone would have the kindness to call me. So fatBoy and Putih each has one.
Cousin R and I debated whether we should put one on The Visitor or Billy Boy (as Cousin R had named him) as he has a home somewhere. However as he keeps coming to dinner and we had fed him to the healthy size that he is now, we decided we should. It seemes that his family has abandoned him although he does go 'home' at night. Cousin R had spoken to the boy who used to own Billy and he told her that his father had refused to feed him. I think that was why he was so thin when he found us. He has an ear tip though so I guess he was a community cat before he was 'rescued' by someone who later abandoned him. Billy Boy now spends much of his time in the carpark. The old auntie says we now have 4 cats. Callie used to be one of the four. I'm sure Callie would not mind us having Billy Boy at all :)

Sunday in our house...

Sunday found the two buddies just hanging out...

Don't think I can't see you...you orange furball!

I am just minding my own business. This is my home too!

Of course wherever Ms Akira is, Tanaka will make sure he is there too like her too constant shadow, much to Ms Akira's disgust. I am sure he just wanted to unravel the mystery of the disappearing cat but the road will be very long I'm afraid.

Meanwhile....

The rest of the occupants are either lounging Sunday away...

or staying close to san and her computer :)
