New Developments for the Wilder Bunch: Update II

PolkaDot the new terror...

Update 18th May 2010 at 3.20 pm

The deed is done. R came and met M and Cousin R with her carrier. M had enticed PD and he was sitting on top of the stairs. When R came she asked the 2 caregivers if PD would enter the carrier willingly. They both said that they had no idea if he would even put his foot in. BUT, a miracle happened. R opened the carrier door and told PD to get in. PD actually got in without a sound! WOAH! He must really trust people. All of them were surprised that he was so docile. R said ,"Wah...what kind of cat is this?" We were all thinking the same thing to be sure. (None of the amigos would get into a carrier if they could help it. Only Bujang of course but only if he is going for a walk. He knows this as I would take out his red jacket and only then would he get anywhere close to a carrier.)

M said we could visit him on weekends and so we shall. We are all relieved although a little sad that this had to happen. But in 3 months I hope he would get used to living in a colony peacefully.

First, he chases all the female kitties and this morning M told me she saw Putih on the overhead bridge! AIYOH! I can't imagine the danger that kitty is in! He chased Putih at dinner this evening and she had to run for her life! He was not scared of either Cousin R, who tried to deter him with water, nor M who tried to shout him to stop. He had hurt Blackie, the plant -eater and she had suffered from quite serious injuries on her head, all bloody and scary! He is truly TERROR in the flesh who is out to dominate over all the female kitties in the block. Now the female kitties have moved to the adjacent block.

So the only solution is either to re-locate him (WHERE?) or to put him in a shelter until he clams down a bit and learns to socialise with other cats. I am not for re-locating him as he would terrorise other cats and the problem would not be solved, just transferred and other caregivers would inherit this headache. So I had opted for shelter. I was told it would be a very expensive business to put him in a shelter for three months but C had helped us with a shelter and R would call me tomorrow. I hope to move hi tomorrow too so that the kitties would get some rest and all would be calmer. I do not know if Blackie would come back or if Putih would get her groove back! But we shall see what happens tomorrow.

I really want to strangle the woman who had thrown him out and created such unhappiness for everyone but herself! GRRRRR!!!!

PS PolkaDot was neutered last week but we cannot wait for 3 months for him to calm down from his super dominant behaviour. The 3 females would have a fit and might migrate to other blocks with no caregivers!

Update:
R called me and we made plans to get PD by 3. He would stay at the shelter for 3 months to calm his nerves and steady his composure. We had a discount so it was not as horrible as I thought it might be and the fees would include his food as well. R said it should take at most 2 months but I always believe in erring on the side of caution.

News about the complaint in blk ***. M spoke to the cleaners at the block and he said that there was a complaint made about Blackie, the black plant-eater. It seemed one of the residents called the TC to complain but it was not about food left there (although the caregivers had seen food left on the floor). The complaint was that one of the residents was afraid of cats, especially black ones and he/she did not want her there at all. At present I do not know what the real truth is but it is useful to document all gossip too...just in case.

hmmm... if he is not neutered best to neuter him. Can calm his temper, I have witnessed this with the few toms here who were initially quite fierce and frisky but whose temperament changed for the better after neutering.

  2. Wow, difficult situation you have there. Has PD been neutered? It may help reduce his testosterone level and make him less aggressive.

Relocating may not be an issue if you manage to find a block w/o any resident cat. There should be a couple in your estate.

Some cats are not afraid of water, like my new addition at home. Have you tried loud claps, together with a firm voice? These may help to a certain extent.

Besides being a behavioral problem, aggression cld be a medical condition eg HyperT cat can be very aggressive, very active, eats a lot but thin.
It is very disturbing for other cats in the area. As if living on the streets is not challenging enough, they have a bully on the block!
