Short Story

Putih taking a break from dinner...

I wanted to write about the cab driver who took FatBoy and me to the vet last Friday but forgot as I wanted to write about FatBoy first. The driver was very chatty and when he heard FatBoy complaining, he told him that all would be alright and he should relax. Then he showed me the picture of his two dogs. They were very beautiful and I told him so.

He told me that he had bought one from a friend for $100.00 and the other one he had adopted from his groomer. It seemed that his groomer knew of a dog in a very bad situation and told him about it. So he went to see the dog and saw that it was thin, mangy and he had only some tufts of hair. It seemed that the previous owner had bought him and then did not know how to take care of him!

The driver said that the owner asked him if he wanted to adopt the dog and so he did. But he already had one and so he asked around to see if anyone has a home for the dog but no one wanted it. After some months and a lot of TLC, the dog became fatter and fitter and the groomer and him and taken care of the fur. The dog became the beauty that it is now. Then many people asked him if he wanted to give the dog up. The driver reprimanded them and told them that this was the exact same dog that he had asked them to adopt some months before. He then told them that there was no way he was going to give his dog up to a bunch of people who had no heart and love for the dog and that they would turn his now happy beauty to something pitiful later.

By then we were at the carpark to the vet's and he wished FatBoy good luck and told him not to be afraid. :)

I m also thankful to the first cab driver who had taken Fatboy to MP on the first day that we had to bring him to the vet. That driver waited for us to close to 2 hours. He could have left to get more fares but he did not. I am glad that there are people like them who are kind to animals.

  1. It's just my observation but generally, dog/cat owners who had adopted rather than purchased their pets, are generally more in tune with the suffering of the other community a animals and will generally open up their hearts and home to adopt/foster community dogs/cats.
