Metamorphosis

2.5 years ago he was called Blackie, just for the color of his coat. This was Blackie after dinner. When he heard the key rings, he would yell for us to wait so we would know he was coming to dinner. he had only 2 meals a day and sometimes not even that as he would sometimes be afraid to come out if he was chased off by people the day before. Sometimes there would be feral dogs who would come for food left by others and chase him off.
Last year, on this date he looked like this. Still surprised and he was not allowed free reign of the whole house yet. so I would have taken this picture when I was home and it would have been late afternoon.
This was last Sunday. He owns the bedroom now. He had been allowed full reign of the house but he decided that my bedroom was best. Now, however, little by little he has decided to come out in the evening to sit with the family which was good. It allows the otehr cats to get used to his presence and for him to figure out what living with a family is like. It took Popps about a year to figure this out. Rezki is taking a much longer time. This will be his 3rd year in the house.

No kitten for me

One of those special times where I sat at the cat gym quietly to observe the goings on. The human told me that it may not be possible for her to find me a kitten. We have many activities as well, with the Acupuncturist and have TCM for CKD. Ms Akira has pancreatitis. 3 of us go to see Adrian for bone adjustment and tightness of our  muscles as we are now more sedentary than before. We also have Fern once a week for Reiki. So for right now, she will try to encourage me to play by myself and maybe show me a video of what 'play' looks like as opposed to being aggressive. But she thinks if a kitten really needs a home (an no one else will take it in) she may consider it....maybe.

Even though Popps also had problems with adjustment, she was already about 10 when we adopted her. So she prefers just lying about and napping these days. Popps doesn't like noise and would reprimand Rezki when he is meowing noisily. But now she just leaves him alone as long as he does not 'disrespect' her or make too much noise.

Thursday Negotiations

The love and hate relationship between The Ninja and Tanaka. This morning Akira rescued Tanaka from Ninja Rezki. Rezki is calmer these day and Tanaka not so afraid of him. It will still take some time but at least they are trying to negotiate space and behaviour.

Thursday with the Drama Queens

 Sitting together yesterday
Is dinner ready yet san? Rez is in the room sitting quite still watching the two DramaQueens

Eversince last Saturday, Akira has been more tolerant of Tanaka's seeming obsession with her comings and goings. He could walk near her couch and she would not suddenly spring at him from under the covers and growl. She can even sit with her back to him for an extended time and to walk infront of him without slinking low to the ground. Things are moving quite nicely.

Miracles happen quietly

Finally yesterday, at the osteopath, Tanaka came close to Akira's carrier and gently hopped in. I was flabbergasted! Adrian was surprised. But we both acted as though nothing had happened and Adrian continued with both their treatments while talking to me quietly.
Tanaka and Akira both in the same carrier and Akira actually made space for him. Neither was  yelling or scratching.
Tanaka put his head on Akira's back and she allowed him to do it!
Adrian, their osteopath continued to give them both the same treatment and they both relaxed.
Tanaka when he first came 10 years ago.

For as long as I can remember these two can't get along for many years. Tanaka thinks Akira is a cry-baby and Akira thinks Tanaka is a pest.  In the last 2 years, after many tries and experiments with Fern's help, Tanaka was much more relaxed around Akira and she with him. Of course there were some spats but not serious ones. Then yesterday it happened when I was least expecting it.

I managed to get them both in the same carrier on the way home but a quarter way in the journey home, Tanaka decided he wanted to see the view and so he hopped out of the carrier to do just that. However, this did not continue at home and they were not suddenly cuddly :) So we will try to see if they would eat closer together and sit closer together as well, if not next to each other. We will see if Tanaka will get into the same carrier next month as well when  they both go to see Adrian.

Saturday Easy

We are happy to have no collar weekends as we get a rest from those satellite collars. So for this weekend we are celebrating by just hanging out.

Popps has been trying to play with Akira for the last week but Akira was too fearful and would just run away screaming. As a result of this Bujang also getd into the act and reprimands Popps every time this happens. So I am trying to get them all to mingle their scents together as they all, except Bujang, takes TCM. So I will just use one towel to wrap them and not use different towels for each one. Reading the literature, this may work better for integration.

Monday Mood

                  Adjustment

This morning I got to be the one who is outside in the morning. It was strange  but I got to sit with San in the morning. Yesterday Tanaka hit me on the behind again even though he was told many times not to be so naughty. San thought if he understands what it feels like in the room he would be a better kitty with me.

San asked Fern to explain it to him as he thought otherwise he would be confused and not know why he was there.

Tanaka: he was mixed with guilt and some playfulness when talked to him. I reminded him not to chase and disturb A. Also I let him know new arrangement. He felt bit surprised and unhappy though he knows why. He said A so uptight. And after that he stopped talking to me. Healed him with focus more on emotion. He was quiet.

Akira: She said T was teasing her and asked if she was ok with him now? Then she got annoyed and afraid he would disturb her and then he did. She felt he never left her alone and became stressed. I told her of new arrangement. She felt relieved and thanked you for doing this for her. I healed her mind to calm her too but can feel she felt it's unexpected though not scared now.

Bujang: He said he tried to stop T by warning him but the boy just too naughty so he couldnt do anything much. I asked him try to talk to T. He said he talked to A to comfort her already.

I don't know why he is so naughty San.

TGIF

    Phew! Thank goodness it's Friday

Today I think I will stay away from warrior princess Akira. She is learning bad habits from Bossy Boots. Last night I was just curious to ask her to play and she yelled at me and jumped down from her seat. I was shocked! I cringed and tried to make myself as small as possible.

There was also chaos as Bossy Boots started to growl as well in the study and Bujang came to see what the fuss was about. San did not want grandma to be upset or even Bujang and so she advised me to go into the bedroom as it was eight o'clock and time to rest. She switched off all the lights and told everyone to go to bed. Phew!

I spent the rest of bedtime here, near the door in case Akira decided to come in and beat me up!

            I am no pushover !

Thursday Tweet

San posted this picture earlier of us together. It was ok. I wasn't upset as I got the bigger share of the bed. And as you can see (but Bujang did not) I was secretly doing press ups.
Then I saw this! I was surprised.
For those of you who asked if it was ok, the answer is NO! So yesterday when he came to the kitchen and he stared me down , I growled and yelled at him. I had not done that for many weeks.

san came to see what the screaming was about and told Bujang to leave me alone. Since I was already in my cage, she closed the door and told me to rest. Then she told Bujang to leave the kitchen. Bujang was not a happy kitty but he did as san wanted him to do.
Phew! I am so glad I have my own bed and blanket and Popps doesn't sit here at all. I prefur yoga to press ups. I heard the commotion all the way to the computer room I was in, But Ms Akira was ok. She just minded her own business.  This Popps is one scary Bossy Boots!!

ps san had posted 2 of these pictures already this week. But she thought she needed to again to make a good story. Thank you for the questions.

TGIF

                        TGIF!!

Popps behaved extremely well the whole week. She was calm when Bujang tried to intimidate her and she turned her face away every time he sat near her. But it must be exhausting work!

The calm before the storm

Bujang and Popps in relative calm.

This used to belong to Bujang. He loved the peace and quiet of grandma's room and her small and tidy bed.
This used to be my space
Now of cos Popps rests here. He has not protested as yet. He very patiently has given up many of his spaces and now feels the stress of not having a space of his own.

He doesn't sit much here at all.
I do not know if his back hurts him when he sits here so it's taken over by
             And his long time obsession

He told Fern last Sunday and he now tries to leave the cats alone as he wants time to himself and to spend time doing things with me. He wants peace and quiet.

Yesterday, I think he got really fed up with Popps who refused to allow him into the kitchen for dinner and later  they got into a little fight. There was yelling, screaming and Popps 's fur flew all over grandma's room. They both got time out and I got bitten by Bujang on the foot as well.

He did not make noise to get out from the room as he knew he was in trouble and Popps stayed in her cage the whole time they were on time out.

Yesterday they both had a session with Craig, a reiki master who is also trying to help Bujang with his back problems.

Bujang had this to say:
"He said he had enough of Poppy encroaching on his space and pushing the boundaries. He resented this as she is 'nice' but keeps pushing closer and closer."
Bujang spent half of the night sitting close to me and grooming on my blanket. He has not sat this close to me for a long long long time. Cat_aunty said he was sorry for biting my foot and losing his temper with me. He did not even yell the whole of last night and after this, he went to sleep on his fav new sleeping place - the upside down chair.
Miss Bossy Boots has only this to say
"She called Bujang a bully but quickly retracted this and admitted that she did try to get too close".

I hope these 2 would make up or at least give each other space.

Monday Mood

I am too cool for this
On Saturday, she decided to sit on the bed as it was fresh linen day. I was curious to see why she was in and out of the bedroom all afternoon and so decided to see what she was up to. And here she was. She is a kitty who can stare down a lion!

I decided that she was ready to go outside. We had posted about this yesterday but I thought it would be nice to have something in video as well. For a first timer, in a walking jacket, she did very well. My other cats took a few days (except Tanaka who took to it like a fish to water) to learn how to walk with harness before they graduated to a walking jacket. When Fern asked about it she said:

"I had been walking and running outside a lot all these years" so it felt strange.I told her this is how your mummy helps you to see things outside so you won't get bored. Then I asked her why she tried to get away. She said she thought she could. I told her never to do that again as it scares everyone and she is safe in the house. She said she knew.

Note: She has weekly Reiki as well with Fern. I hope to get her to feel better and more in tune with the amigos. So she gets to talk to Fern weekly as well. Its like having your own psychiatrist. :). As with everyone else, she has monthly sessions with Craig.

Easy Peasy Sunday

This week was relatively peaceful. We spent it just hanging around in the house and sometimes we spent it outside. The days were very hot sometimes and san got a little short of breath because of the haze but we were fine. Akira spent one or two afternoons outside , sitting on san's lap. She had taken to doing this ever since Putih scared her the first time and she took refuge with san outside. My brother Tanaka had been trying to behave himself better. San said he did very well this week with leaving Putih alone. I could see that he tried his best. It was only my sister Akira who still has a great fear of Putih still. I on the other hand had taken everything in my stride.

I am sure you are surprised to see Putih in my old red harness. Yesterday san decided to take her for a walk along the corridor. The only difficult thing was putting her in the harness as it was a two-woman job. But after that she took to walking in the harness very easily. I thought we might show you more pictures of her in the harness.

She wanted to go straight upstairs to where the bird sounds came from but san said she must not catch any birds. Anyway our upstairs neigbour already told san that he has a parrot and he thinks we would scare it if we walk up there. However, later in the evening she started to climb up the cat seats near the window and wanted to get outside. Then she screamed and tried to go through the grills wanting to be outside. She did this the first  two weeks she was here to recuperate from the wounds but yesterday she went on and  on. San thought maybe walking outside reminded her of her old life and the outside that she loved.
I told san that we should end the post with a nice picture of me as I was the only one who remained calm and collected throughout the whole week that we have been coping with Putih. I think she is an ok kitty and it is good that she is here. It would be hard on her if she is outside on her own. It rained the whole of yesterday and last night there was thunder. I was a little afraid of that and spent the night under the table but other than that, I think I was very brave.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Easy Peasy Sunday

We thought we would begin our Sunday post with a short update on Putih. After her very short outside adventure, we had made sure that she is not at the door when we are watering the plants. But of course she gets to walk about at other times when I am at home to supervise everyone. The boys have been very good at their promise of leaving her alone and would only look at her from where they were, which is always away from the door. Tanaka especially has been very restrained and merely hissed at her a little when she tried to enter the bedroom when he was at the door. Bujang of course has been very good and had  ignored her movements. He was not offended when she hissed at him while he was resting on the shelves or near the window. He merely ignored her and continued to nap. She has begun to explore the house again and even went into the other litter boxes although she had used any of them. She had only commandeered the one in the kitchen which no other kitty uses anymore. She has a litter bin in her cage but prefers the one in the kitchen. There has been no more screaming or chasing but maybe that is because I made sure the boys are safely away from the door. Akira has seen her walking about but I made sure that she is safely in the cat hammock or sitting at the cat gym before I let Putih out. I thought it better that they get used to seeing her walking about and she sees that they mean her no harm before I let them mingle more. This has been her second month in the house. I heard that it takes at least 8 months for a cat to get used to another living space!
The kitties themselves have been resting quite a lot. Tanaka is the only one who is always on the lookout for her. Here he was on the bed while Putih was exploring the room. Although curious he was not stressed out. Akira has been spending much more time outside but her overgrooming is as bad as ever and she has broken through some skin although not too badly. Bujang has had a quiet time of walks downstairs and upstairs. Putih told Fern that she thinks Akira is a pampered kitty while she reaslised that Bujang has a 'special position ' in the house. I think if Bujang remains calm it would serve as an example to others as well...I hope.

The Great Escape

that didn't succeed

LAst night Putih attempted her great escape. She very quickly stepped into the corridor when one of us opened it to water the plants.
She is always seated like this or she hangs around the door behind the grills to look at the corridor. We had often wondered what she was looking at.

It was fortunate that once she was outside, she merely walked although very quickly. I learnt from before (when my rainbow kitty Totoro decided to go for a walk by himself), never to run after a cat as it would only scare them into running. She looked at the plants and snooped about. I had to stop myself from yelling at her to stop but I knew that once she gets to the staircase, she may make a run for it. So as she walked towards the staircase, I managed to scoop her up. It surprised me that she didnt struggle very much nor did she try to scratch or bite me. I guess she was in shock to be scooped so unceremoniously.

Of course she had time-out in her cage with the blanket thrown over it. It calmed her down somewhat. I told her sternly that such behaviour will not be acceptable and she needed to listen more carefully to all of us.Of course I think she may be more than bored and only wnated to look at the corridor for real.

She has not allowed any of us to touch her at all and she would only tolerate small sniff at our hands. I had thought of teaching her to walk with a harness and leash later but mayebe I will have to do that sooner now.

All in all we were all relieved that she is safely back with us and will now make sure that she is nowheer near the door when we water plants.

Monday Mood

The kitties had reiki yesterday and Bujang had this to say about the whole business.

"Bujang said he was quite confused and is not sure what Putih wants or feeling. But he does not hate Putih. He said we should give her another chance, but he is cautious too." Bujang said about Putih "let's wait and see further."

Easy Peasy Sunday

This was what we did yesterday. Bujang went for a long walk downstairs where he ran after pigeons and looked at the world. I took 2 videos of our local pigeons walking about and one of him watching them from behind this bush so he can look at them on his You Tube page. The boys and Akira spent a lot of time yesterday sitting on top of shelves and cat trees just in case case Putih decides to make a run for them when she was outside in the living room.
This is the only place where I am safe from the white cat!
Bujang and Tanaka sitting away from the door. Akira was inside the room.
I put some Bach remedy on her ears before letting her out yesterday and some in her food and water. I think she has decided that THIS is where she wants to be all the time. But this is also where all the kitties like to sit as there is a nice breeze and they get to look outside. She is very calm when she sits here but watch out anyone who tries to sit here when she wants to. Last night she wa sitting here calmly when she noticed Akira in her night cage as it was about 10.30 pm and Akira wants to get inside at about 10. She stared at Akira moving about the cage intently, her whole boy still. Usually she would just leave Akira alone but yesterday she took one step towards her, hissing  a little.

I put her on time out as Akira was already very wary of her and would not stay outside alone, even with Putih in her own cage in the kitchen with the door closed. I didn't think I should take an more risks with Akira and her nervous over-grooming issues.
My lesson fur this time is this. "watch out behind you! THAT'S all I say about this!"
