Grass

I grew this grass from a grass-kit as I could not get any viable wheatgrass seeds myself. It took about 5 days for the grass to be this height. Tanaka likes eating grass in this way as he has a hard time trying to adjust his whiskers for cut grass. Bujang prefers cut grass. Skywalker is curious about grass. She may not have been given any   previously. She likes the smell but she is confused as to why Tanaka enjoys eating it. So she scrutinizes him every time he eats grass.

I love grass, really I do.

Tanaka likes grass that is still in the pot or in this case tray. When he goes for a walk, this will be his first stop. First, the quick look into the box.

My role here is to act as a grass-bringer-outer person. He will wait for me to actually bring one tray out for inspection and approval. This always happens if there are two trays.

Once he has sniffed at and inspected the suitability of the said grass, there will be the first bite.

If he puts his whole head in the grass patch, we are safe for landing.

The art of eating grass

The kitties simple love grass and would eat wheatgrass happily. Everyone gets wheatgrass before I go to work every morning. Tanaka does not like to be fed grass by hand as he has yet to learn how to move his long whiskers away. I did not get them grass for the whole of last month and he has been showing Fern, our animal communicator and reiki friend, images of grass. So I called Kin Yan and they brought the amigos the wheatgrass trays last week. I had tried to grow my own catgrass but I have yet to be successful at it.

1 tray will last him about 1 week. The other tray is for Bujang and Akira, who would eat grass by hand. Akira would also eat the tops of the grass in their trays but not Bujang.
He is not interested in the grass although he would deign to sniff at it. He prefers his cut grass. But he likes eating from downstairs though. This grass is hardier but he chooses his grass carefully.

Eating grass on Sunday

Our new batch of grass...they look crunchy and juicy...

Yummy...

Its nice and crunchy too...
I planted the boys and one girl a new batch of grass as only Bujang gets to eat grass in the park when I bring him for his walk. The boys and Ms Akira like grass and I try to give them a few blades every morning. Bujang always waits for me to give him the grass right after I water the plants. Sometimes he makes a vocal request :)

Cat Grass Mystery

2 different growths from the same catgrass brand...

I simply have to blog about the cat grass. Bujang now does not like to eat wheatgrass anymore. He prefers the cat grass that we grow ourselves :) This put some pressure on me to grow at least decent grass for Tanaka and Bujang. It surprises me however why sometimes I cannot get some decent grass from the same brand using the same soil. The one on the right took 7 days to sprout shoots instead of the usual 3 days and then it took another week to grow in this wild fashion. The one on the left took 3 days and it is now growing straight and strong. It is also crunchy and juicy. I can hear the crunch when Bujang bites into it :) I wonder why.

Grass Unveiled

"I smell cat grass..yum..."

"Yes..this is it!"

"Smells juicy and crunchy..."

"Let's eat Bujang. STOP smelling!"

Yummy...

SmartKat grass

The cat grass is still going strong and looking rather beautiful...

In actual fact...

The SmartyKat grass is now growing very well indeed. This pot contains a whole box of seeds. I planted half of it the first time (following aunty_p's excellent idea when she planted the ASAP grass) and after 10 days, I just made sure the rest of the seeds were hidden under the soil after which I placed the whole pot in a shady area.
The centre of the pot is the first batch of cat grass. I had cut the grass for the 3 grass-eating kitties close to the soil and in a few days, the grass grew tall again. I think with this second cutting, the seeds would have given all they can and I would have to get a new pot to plant the next batch of grass - in about 5 days as the kitties do not eat a lot of grass, more like an entre or 'alas perut' (line the stomach) as we say.
It's good that I do not have to buy any more wheatgrass for the present as there is only so much that the kitties can eat and we would always have to throw out the rest as they would become dry and yellow in the fridge by the 5th day.

The grass is always greener

in other people's houses (read aunty_p's house). My cat grass is looking rather sad. This is the good side so you can imagine what the other side looks like. But I will persevere. At least Bujang would get to eat some home grown grass, no matter how sad it looks :)

Cat Grass

The romantic under the bougainvilla version...

The black and white...

I have had some success with the cat grass. I scrutinise the plastic container every morning and remind garndma to water it when she waters her plants everyday. Grandma and I have been looking at the grass and wondering if it would ever grow :) Finally this very morning I saw one very brave shoot and indeed this evening, I saw this great proliferation of shoots. I am much relieved that after the excellent tutoring by auntie_p, the cat grass is finally showing progress :)

Gift

Wah...mysterious brown package...from Singapore :)

Bujang was sure that it belonged to him...

and indeed he was right :) Thanks aunty_p....for my asap grass...

We got some asap grass from kind aunty_p. I tried to read the instrcutions but of course it was in Chinese :) Aunty_p very kindly gave me some instructions that would guarantee juicy grass like what Coco has. The grass eater Bujang and his sidekick Akira would be pleased :)

Growing Grass

I bought this cat grass seedlings for Bujang and Akira. I have yet to get around to planting them as the I still have some more wheat grass left for the duo. I cannot get ASAP grass in the pet shop at all. I hope this one would be more successful. It does ay put in an area where there is some light. :)
