TGIF

                TGIF
I had a nice walk in the morning before San had to bring one of the community cats to the vet. It was a short walk but I don't mind.
San brought the kitty to this vet as it opens on public holidays. Today is a special public holiday because of our Jubilee. This vet helps comm cats a lot. The kitty has to stay overnight and her wound can only be stitched tomorrow. San thinks she was in a fight. This kitty was Jeffrey's best friend.

Community Cat Wednesday

Putih was very impatient to be home. She sat close to the door of the carrier, the  faster to jump out of it on Monday when we released her.
Last evening, she came out for dinner. We were afraid she may not make an appearance though but we glad when she did. She ate with gusto and then left quickly.
We had waited until the sores were all healed before we released her. So instead of the usual 10 days indoors, she had to stay for 14 days until all the 5 wounds closed up.

Fern had also spoken to Putih on Monday. She had this to say:

She said she was quite afraid to be outside again but in a way still wants to be where she used to. I asked her to stay way from other cats who might fight with her. She said yr house is comfortable and she is so lucky you helped her. She said she respects all yr kitties. I asked her if she remembers Totoro, she said yes and said she knows Toro has been resting.

ps: Toro used to open the bathroom doors to let her out at night when she was recuperating in our house before. He would sit outside the bathroom door and before long Putih would be walking about in the living room.

Community Cat ... and some gruesome pictures

I must say that it was not as bad as I thought it would be. She only meowed loudly in the morning when the chores are being done. Other than that she spent her time napping and walking about in the kitchen. I know because I sit at the kitchen door and supervised her that way. Err...san is going to show her wounds here so if you're nervous just know that they looked quite deep.
This was what one side looked like when the vet had cleaned off the dead skin. The vet said the wounds would have been there for about 2 days for them to have dead skin and a lot of pus. This was true because Cousin R saw one of the wounds on Monday evening. It was only Tuesday when san decided to take Putih to the vet. The vet had also cleaned the pus off the wounds. She had 5 deep holes. The vet said that these could only be made by another cat.
The vet had to shave her as he had to make sure everything is clean.
We were supposed to clean her wounds with the cleaning solution and then smear the antibiotic gel on the wounds twice a day.
The vet was very impressed with Putih's stoicism and calmness. She did struggle and meow but overall she was a perfect patient. The vet did spray something on the wounds to kill the pain for a bit before he scraped her dead skin off to expose the new skin.
When she came home from the vet, she ate half acan of tuna and chicken and then had a nap.
This was how the wound looked like yesterday. There is still some pus which we clear before we put the cleaning solution. It looks clean and does not smell.
san: The kitties were very well-behaved and did not disturb Putih at all. Bujang and Tanaka decided to have meals in the living room. However, this morning Bujang braved it and had breakfast in the kitchen. Putih eats in the bathroom. The surprise was Akira who spends her half of the day outside on the fridge in the kitchen and she does not seem disturbed by Putih's meowing. However, these days Bujang spends time with both Akira and I in the computer room at night, instead of sitting by himself in the living room. He is still a little nervous. Tanaka does not go to the kitchen at all but he does spend time outside. I think everyone is coping quite well with this emergency.

Community Cat - The Calm after the Storm

There were many things that I had to consider before deciding if I can actually bring home our comcat Putih for the recommended 10 days (hopefully) of recuperation or 14 days. The first thing is how this would affect the amigos. I know that Tanaka would be very upset and might not even consider coming out to the living room at all. This was what had happened before. Bujang might vocalise even more than usual and Akira might overgroom even worse than normal. However, the situation was pretty dire and I had to make a decision before Putih's situation worsened. It was fortunate that we had Fern to help us smoothen the transition. Before we had Fern, I had to wing most of the decisions I have had to make for them. So this post would be the exchange between Fern and the amigos about Putih.
This was Bujang's worried face when he saw Putih in the house.
"I would ask Mummy"
Bujang: Feels worried (that she is gonna be a new member of the family) Jealous a bit.
Fern told him that it was only temporary but he decided that he would ask me anyway. This was what he did and I had told him that Putih would be at the house only until she recovers and then she would go back.
Tanaka: Nervous and confused why another girl cat here. He told me (Fern) about Putih before I (Fern) started telling him. I told him to be a gentleman.
Akira: She heard the boys communicating about a new cat in the house (she was in the computer room and so away from the chaos). She was curious at first but later she was calm and understands very well after I explained to her.

san: After the initial sniffing and investigations, the amigos relaxed slightly and just stayed in their happy places. I am pleased to see that Tanaka has not restricted himself to the bedroom only and yesterday had ventured outside into the family living space to relax. There is still an air of anticipation and a lot of curiosity especially when Putih meows loudly from the kitchen but no one is running around crazily at all.

Putih had stayed with us for short periods in the 8 years that I have been taking care of her. She stayed for a week after sterilisation, another week after her false pregnancy and for almost 2 weeks when her leg got bitten due to a cat fight. She could hardly walk then and the vet had to sedate her to lance the pus. This time, I hope it would not be such a long stay as she is not happy to be indoors with 3 strange cats herself.

How are you now Megat?

Megat's wound is getting better. The area around it is clean and he hardly ever worries it these days. There is sometimes a little hint of liquid although the lanced site is now knitting together. He has 5 more days of antibiotics to go. He sits quietly while we clean the site so the twice a day recommendation is a breeze.
