Restful Friday

This is way too quiet fur me...

Resting the evening away...

After the excitement of the 2nd sub q for everyone, the boys and Ms Akira decided that they deserved a well-earned rest :) Toro likes sitting near the gate so he can catch the breeze. He is just afraid of being outside still. Ms Akira decided to grace the occasion :)

Whats that?

Last night Bujang clambered up the cat gym and pawed at some insect or reptile that he saw. Most like it would be a lizard. The boys had eaten one or two in the past two months. I know I should rescue the lizard from them but I really am too chicken to do that.

Okok...you got it! Just a little to the left!

Tanaka was being his usual useful and helpful self. :)

Welcome to Our House Rocket Tanaka

Are you sure grandma? You won't ask san to send me away later would you?

I told grandma about E, the potential adopter who had been asking me about Tanaka. Grandma is very fond of Tanaka and has been saying (sporadically) that he should just stay with us as he is getting bigger and the amigos are used to him. More importantly she said, he is used to them and if we send him away, he would be sure to look for his fav kitty- Megat and Megat would miss him too. I also know she likes him as when she stayed with Sister N for 4 days, she kept talking about Tanaka more than any other amigo. When I told her about E and whether we should send him for his adoption, she kept quiet until I had to ask her straight up if she wanted to keep Tanaka with us.

She said yes straightaway. I asked her if it would be too much to have 5 cats in the house but she said he is big already and he is used to us. It would be a sad thing to let him go. I told her she has to be sure and not tell me to send him away once he is already part of the amigo house as it would be traumatic for me as well as Tanaka. Without hesitation, she said we are already taking care of him and so she sees no difference.

So now Rocket Tanaka is one of the Owners of the House; one of us. I think 5 is enough.

Twas the night before Hari Raya Haji...

and all through the house...

no one was stirring...
except Rocket Tanaka...

At least he had the wisdom to stay quite still. If not the whole Christmas inspired poem would go to the dogs!
Update
Toro did not eat his protein sachet with good grace and threw up again right after I gave him his 2 small tubes in the morning. So I decided to get some tuna water and mix the very bland protein in it. I mixed it into a thick mixture but he still refused to eat it from his bowl so I grabbed him gently and firmly and asked grandma to help me hold his hind legs. He moved around a little but finally realised that he actually had to eat the stuff. It was a slow process but he downed all of his 3 tubes in the afternoon and 4 tubes at night. So he had actually eaten 3/4 of his whole sachet for today. He had to take 1 sachet per day for 3 days. Since I am getting the hang of it, I think the next 2 days would be better. After he had successfully eaten his share, I immediately gave him a little treat as a reward (I have not given the amigos any treats since the beginning of Dec). I think this helped quite a bit. No more vomitting episodes.
Ms Akira as predicted did not cooperate with the 1/4 pill and created quite a stir. She refused to open her mouth and she has some very sharp teeth too! I remembered that she totally refused to allow the vet to open her mouth and the vet had to try to prise open her mouth twice. Btw, she has very good teeth :) So Cousin R came up with a solution to hide the pill in the salmon treat that aunty_p brought us. We both knew she likes the treats but we had not been giving any of the amigos any treats at all. She ate the treat, dropped the pill and after sniffing it for a bit, she ate it. SUCCESS!
So all in all, today has been quite good for them all :)

'Cats in' - sink #004

Megat resting in the bathroom and getting a good view of the room. He was also watching Toro racing in and out running after invisible things.

Megat at rest

Megat resting on our sofa, just like grandma...

A closer view of his increasingly bald back...

Megat likes resting on the sofa. It has become his special place. I guess its because grandma and I would be there when we watch TV or have something to eat. He likes being with us. He spends as much time on this sofa as he does in the bedroom.

Sept 15: The Civil Defence Siren call

Ms Akira showing what to do when 'underground'...

Megat showing all that in safety, we must also be vigilant...

Toro staying vigilant at our one of two water sources, just in case...

The amigos, like true blue Singaporeans, heeded the call are all prepared for an emergency.

The case of the Flying Kitty

Mowwwrrrrrr......
Ms Akira or Kira-Kira as we call her these days, lying in wait for Megat, who was minding his business under the table. She was growling very softly and I'm sure Megat heard her as he tried to streak off into the bedroom but NOT before Kira2 had pounced on him with a blood-screaming yell! She landed a little short. Grandma was too shocked to react and I was too far away to catch her to put her in her cage for time-out. By the time I got to her, it was about 1 or 2 minutes after her attempt at scaring Megat so it would not be all that useful to quarantine her then.
Megat escaped to the bedroom very narrowly. I went to see if he was okay and as he was quite okay on the bed I left him alone to rest.

Hmm...what to do..what to do?

Ms Akira confronting Megat who was still in bed at 1030 am.
Ms Akira could not lose face. She had to make a choice.

Slow and steady, Ms Akira decided there was only one choice. She made it slowly and surely. But who should come into the picture? It's nosy kitty Totoro.

Ms Akira decided that enough was enough. There were many more places where a cat can sleep peacefully in this household:)

The cat Tanaka

Yup. This is the entry that got lost but I have to rewrite as if I want it to appear in this space. We are getting another cat into the amigo house from M, my friend who had also rescued Toro. The persian kitten is from her own 2 persian cats, one of which is Chester. I remembered telling M a long time ago that I wished I had such a pretty exotic cat (although I dearly love all my cats). I remembered watching a Malay couple who had a very beautiful bronze-marbled persian cat and they were going to get a British Shorthair. M and I then decided that we would not buy kittens from the petshop as there are many kittens and cats waiting to be adopted.
My very wise sister emailed me to say that this may not be a good decision as cats need a lot of space and I already have four :) She may be right of course and cats do need alot of space. I have told M that I would adopt the kitty and try to get her/him used to living with us - rather cramped I guess. If the kitty is not happy, then I will have to give her/him up to M again.
But all this is premature as the kitty is not born yet even and it will be 3 months before anything happens. Sally (another one of M's friend who is going to adopt the kittens) says she wants to have Chester's kittens and if anything happens to the kittens, I would want her to have them as her cat Ocean has been very sick with renal failure.
Maybe I am very selfish to want the persian kitten just because it would be pretty and I have been wanting one for such along time. But persian cats are not very active either so that is something I could comfort myself with.
Maybe I would just throw out my furniture to make space :)) I wonder if that will be enough :)

A dish of my own

I bought Megat his own dish today from PL at Tampines Mall because I broke his hand-me-down dish the day before yesterday. I was washing the CATIT and placed the dome filled with water on the dish-drying rack. I didn't realise that grandma had secured the rack with a piece of wire as it was loose and CRASH! the whole thing went down into the sink. Megat's dish and my mug were the only things that were broken. Thank goodness for that! So I guess it is about time that he got his very own dish :)

Bujang and the kid

Bujang resting on top of the cupboard - Lord of all he surveys..

I am GODZILLA!!!

Bujang resting without his alter ego...

Today my nephew and sister came to visit. My nephew likes playing with Bujang as he is the least skittish of all the kitties. Later Bujang decided he had quite enough of rough play and jumped on top of the cupboard for safety. It was only when my nephew arranged all the mice for him that he became curious and came down to investigate.

Best Friends

Yah..yah..I see what you see...uhuh...

Yah...yah..I see what you see..again...

Best friends furrever...

I got home early for once and opened the windows for the amigos. Bujang and Ms Akira immediately made a bee-line for the best seats in the house to see the goings-on outside. From this side of the room, they get to see the roadand all the vehicles on it. They like doing this alot- if not together, seperately.

Monday lullaby

Ms Akira taking a break from scaring Megat...

Toro has taken a liking to my bag and taking a break from scaring Ms Akira...

Bujang is just taking a break...

Megat is sleeping on his new blanket that grandma has placed for him and he is taking a break after taking his ARCferon. He is the only one taking his vitamins and I fear he has to do this for the long term. I have learnt to take it out from the fridge and leave it to out so it returns to room temperature and he finds this much better than having some cold liquid shot into his mouth.

Rainy Sunday stories

Ms Akira under the covers...

Where has this bag been?

Yah Bujang, doesn't it smell suspicious?

Sunday sees the amigos just resting and lazing about. megat was in hiding so its only the 3 of them in these pics. Toro and Bujang were incredibly suspicious of my bag as I had gone to a bbq and I guess smells linger :)

Cats at windows

Bujang looking at the world from the safety of his cat gym...

So much to see...

Ms Akira joining her best friend for a little chat...

Ms Akira and Bujang had a quiet session at the window to look at the world. They sniffed at each other and then sat and groomed themselves. All is right in their world :)

And the winner is...

Toro resting on his fav chair next to me...

which effectively cuts off Ms Akira's route to get to the top of the cupboard. She has to get on top of the computer table if she wants to jump onto the cupboard top.

Undeterred, Ms Akira decided to jump onto grandma's sewing machine instead for some R & R much to Toro's disgust as he left soon after :)

The amigos' after-dinner activity

After dinner, I sleep on the coffee table so grandma and san can admire me..
I keep watch on Bujang with one eye and keep the other eye on grandma and san just in case they decide to leave me with Ms Akira...

I keep watch on the door as I hear all the strange noises from the outside and keep close to grandma and san who always watch the cooking shows after dinner... just in case..

Monday matters

Ms Akira looking at Megat...should I scare him?

Megat, where is the rest of your face eh?

Ms Akira and Bujang looking at the leftovers from the wildbunch...

"I want to see the leftovers too please..please.."

When I came home from feeding the WildBunch, the amigos were all waiting in anticipation. Ms Akira was not her usual Amazonian self and she merely watched Megat from her Marukan. I think she was weighing the odds of scaring him out of his wits. She has not been swatting him for 3 whole days. I would like to think the Feliway diffuser that I have placed in the computer room is helping her calm down for a bit. She sits quite near the diffuser for long hours.
Toro still has yet to figure out how to jump onto the mahjong table to join the rest so the poor thing can only try to appeal to the sympathy of others :) He is a very bright kitty and one of these days he would figure out that he can use the chairs to get onto the table. One day...perhaps..

Waiting

We are waiting for you san...

The amigos always wait for me at the door when I get home from feeding the WildBunch. Here they are in their usual spots. Ms akira would be busy sniffing at everything, Bujang would wait for me patiently on grandma's mahjong table, Megat would be too afraid to be out in the open so he waits under the table and Toro would run to watch the goings-on outside before I close the door for the night. I am glad its just another night in the amigo house although I know how precious such nights are for all of us :)
