Run Free Rezki

My cat Rezki suffered from Feline Aortic Thromboembolism (FATE) early on 1st May 22. The vet said he had a heart murmur and his clot blocked the arteries at his hips. As a consequence his legs were disabled and he could not walk. He fell off the kitchen counter and dragged himself to the living room. He passed away soon after I brought him to the vet. 

He was a cat full of shenanigans and grand plans of becoming boss. He became boss early this year and worked hard to take care of the others. He was only six years old, an ex-community kitty. He was a firecracker and was afraid of nothing.

A little note from Rezki, our gangsta boy from Chris, our ac.

He's sorry he left so sudden. He wants to make sure you are safe always. Though he cannot execute his major plan which he nv say what, he is glad to be part of the household. He will be joining the rest to look after the house.

Rez said that he wanted to his urn to be in the bedroom but his message was hijacked by his brother Totoro who said 'they all wanted to be inside, away from the sun but on a nice shelf but must be arranged nicely from first to last' So I decided to shift them all and now they are all together.

My letter to san

dear san

I think it's time I tell you that a cat needs some dignity. I am tired looking like a flying saucer. You said I need to wear this for only a week but since this is my third collar, it is going to be three weeks. If I promise not to pull the fur off my back will you take it off? No? You actually want to see the fur? Really?

Then I only have this to say to you.

I am good at pretending...

I was surprised to see Rez last night just lazing about here and wondered what he was trying to do. This was not his usual space. he sat here for some time and didn't move even when I took his pictures. I must say he was a very good model. Then I saw all the kitties lining up for night snacks :)

Saturday Sleeps

I was quite surprised to see Rez sleeping so soundly. he didn't even blink an eye when I took this picture. He would usually open one eye to make sure that I was not doing anything fishy like making him take his meds. He even snored...poor thing. Must have been really tired trying to stalk Tanaka and was stalked instead by Akira.

Wednesday chit-chat

 

 Hello. I thought I would just hang out here for a bit. 

I like watching teevee. I sometimes sit here with my family and watch with them. My favourite is cooking shows as there is always something going on. I like watching people more than I like watching animals.

Of course I also like sleeping in the warm afternoons. This is my blanket on san's bed. The blanket is always here during the day as I like napping on the bed. Sometimes I just nap on the bed linen but I know this is my place. san bought this blanket especially for me as my two brothers have their own.

Shenanigans!

I fear san is not telling the truf. I have been very good this past week and have sat quietly, minding my own business. I have also taken a liking to sitting with grandma as she is usually still and calls my name kindly. Of course she can't remember my name and calls me 'Cat". But I know she means me as she always calls out "Cat" when I sit with her.

Ok. Maybe san is right. I sometimes have no control over my impulses and I think it was Tanaka's fault for not minding me. I was just here for a bit, okay for more than a bit looking at him looking out. I was thinking of jumping on him but I heard san calling "REZKI" and so I stopped. san always calls me REZKI if she is warning me about something that I should not do and I know how to listen to that. At other times she just sings out my name Rez~~~~~~. I know then that I am not in trouble.

Rezki as the sitter-on-clothes cat

Here I was sitting on san's clothes yesterday. They were newly ironed and crisp. I like sitting on her clothes.

This morning, as usual I was on san's bed waiting for her to dress for work. san goes to work very early in the morning and I enjoy being on the warm bed. I saw her put her clothes on the bed and it moved about because of the fan blowing on it. it looked like an animal and so I sat on it and bit it. san told me not to be so rough as I would tear it and where would she and I be then?

But I have decided that I would be san's new sitter-on-clothes cat as she needs my help when she is dressing. If not, her nice, warm clothes would fall off the bed. I am a very helpful kitty.

Tuesday with Rezki

It so hot these days that I like sitting here on grandma's leather sofa. The pillows smell of family and so I like them. In the afternoon Amazon Akira is not here as she likes sitting under the table, near Poppy. San bought a new ceiling fan that actually circulates air so its very cool and breezy as well. 

Metamorphosis

2.5 years ago he was called Blackie, just for the color of his coat. This was Blackie after dinner. When he heard the key rings, he would yell for us to wait so we would know he was coming to dinner. he had only 2 meals a day and sometimes not even that as he would sometimes be afraid to come out if he was chased off by people the day before. Sometimes there would be feral dogs who would come for food left by others and chase him off.

Last year, on this date he looked like this. Still surprised and he was not allowed free reign of the whole house yet. so I would have taken this picture when I was home and it would have been late afternoon.

This was last Sunday. He owns the bedroom now. He had been allowed full reign of the house but he decided that my bedroom was best. Now, however, little by little he has decided to come out in the evening to sit with the family which was good. It allows the otehr cats to get used to his presence and for him to figure out what living with a family is like. It took Popps about a year to figure this out. Rezki is taking a much longer time. This will be his 3rd year in the house. 

Rezki on Sunday

Rezki sat with my Sister after she finished her evening prayers. He just sat quietly listening to her read verses. 

Popps used to do this but now she much prefers her own company. He loves my sister and she of him. I am glad he has chosen his person. My sister sleeps over once a week so he would not miss her too much. 

Saturday at home

Yesterday Rezki told Fern that he was afraid that I might not love him. I was thinking about that and thought possibly it’s because I keep telling him to leave the others alone when he disturbs their rest. Possibly it’s time to think about what happens to a cat like this in a houseful of senior cats. I had thought of rehoming him to a house with younger cats so he can play with cats that has the  same level of energy now that his kidneys are fine. Then I think that perhaps that would be foolish as he is used to us and he has worked very hard to be where he is. And not many people would send him to acupuncture nor do tcm and reiki. Also he would be truly upset if he has to go. I would need to rethink my strategy to integrate him into senior family life.

Look who's coming to dinner

Rezki decided to see if he liked dinner with family. He sat under the table and ate his dinner like any other cat in the house. Popps usually eats dinner in the kitchen but that evening Rezki was there first. Tanaka usually eats by himself in the living room away from others as he eats slowly and gets nervous when so many cats are about. 

Thursday Negotiations

 

 

The love and hate relationship between The Ninja and Tanaka. This morning Akira rescued Tanaka from Ninja Rezki. Rezki is calmer these day and Tanaka not so afraid of him. It will still take some time but at least they are trying to negotiate space and behaviour. 

Napping all day and every day

 

The torn mat is all Rezki's handiwork. If he does not get his way, he would yell and tear the mat apart. Then he would mess up his blanket. After some time he would relax and play with his toy by the window. I usually wait for the storm to pass before letting him out. 

Thursday with Rezki

Rezki had a lot of fun playing with the lure. He plays on the bed so he can do cartwheels without hurting himself.

Rez is a very loving cat and loves attention. He sits on this mat (his own) and waits for me for some alone time every day. So we spend time after dinner and before everyone needs to rest.

...Round and round and round we go...

It is not often these days that Rez sits on my bed and plays by himself. These days he prefers snooper vising and looking out of windows. Unfortunately there is still very little interest shown by people to adopt the little guy but he will be with us until that happens. And yes, Poppy still hates his guts!
