Run Fast and Fly High
Our kitty Megat went to the bridge today after some days of difficulties eating and breathing. Dr Ly and I gave him a little help at about 6.15 pm as we thought he would not be as comfortable as he should be. I whispered in his ears ,"Run Fast Megat and Fly High."
I would miss having him on my chest everyday after his lingzhi where we spend time together singing songs. Well I sang the song and he struggled to get away from my singing.
This was one of the last few times he had eating easily with his brother Bujang. I am glad I have at least this one picture.
Thank you everyone for all your advice and loving thoughts.
Run fast Megat and fly high.

Shaolin Megat
No, I want to register my protest. I do not think it is good for a 16-year-old kitty to be jumping up and down san. Anyway it is now my place. Please do something about it.
I have been writing about how much confidence Megat has now that he is undergoing Reiki. This is why I decided to buy the carpet squares and why the squares are now stuck on the cardboard boxes. This happened last Saturday - the first time he was ever on top of Ms Akira's cage.
and on the top tier of her cage as well...
Tanaka: What are you doing inside there Megat?
Almost every weekday, we would be doing this after his suppository. He knows it would be about 25 to 30 minutes. He is quite irritated by the confinement :)
I hope we will continue to have good days for a long time yet :)
Shaolin Megat is living up to his name.

The Flying Hyena
Ms Akira unleashed her hyena-like fury on Megat on Friday morning. Megat was sitting behind the curtains near this cat tree minding his own business. Ms Akira spied him from under the bedcovers and prompty unleashed a blood-curling yell - YEOWWORRRrrr and she leapt from the bed to land on the chest. It scared Megat so much that he just stood rooted. Ms Akira then showed him HER Shaolin Fists of Fury!! Megat did not try to fight back and scooted into his carrier. Its a pity I did not manage to catch the furious-as-lightning Kung-fu moves but at least I got these 2 pics of Ms Akira regaining her throne. Megat should really know better than try to get on her case all the time.

I, Shaolin Megat aka Megat Hitam
It was too hot to bring Bujang to the park today eventhough I got off work early. I came home and rested for abit before going to feed the Wild Bunch. At about 9 pm Bujang was yelling so I took out their favourite toy Da Bird and played with them for about one hour. I had to put Megat in the cage as it would be just him monopolising the game otherwise. after the kitties got tired, I let megat out and he got to jump and wrestle with the lure. None of the others joined him in the game as he would simply try to scare them into giving up the lure.
Grandma keeps saying he is a very bold cat for one who has just escaped the carpark :)

Catnip mouse
I went to the pet store on Sunady to stock up on cat food for the CNY holidays. I have a fear that my cats would have no food as shops would close for two or three days and I have been running out of cat food. I got the usual fussiecat and Natural Balance canned food for the kitties. Nowadays, only Bujang still eats the NB. Toro is now refsuing to eat the NB. I don't know why and so I have resumed giving him his fussiecat. Only Megat is still going strong but he would only eat his softened biscuits with some NB.
I bought megat 3 catnip mice so that he would play by himself even when I am in the house. It was quite a success as he tore down the house running and throwing his mouse in the air and once he even carried it in his mouth. Unfortunatley after THAT one time, he has yet to repeat this mouse-in-mouth performance. I had ideas of teaching him to play 'fetch' :)) I was glad he enjoyed himself and he even ate some catnip which threw him into a daze :)
The other kitties looked at the mice with great disdain and ignored them and him. I guess they think they're too old for catnip mice. :)

Time out
I just came back from an overnight camp and decided to spend some time with the amigos. When I got home, Megat was alreday out of the cage. Grandma decided to let him alone as he was sitting quietly in his green carrier in the bedroom. As long as Megat did not beat up the kitties or try to get into her kitchen cabinets, grandma is quite willing to let him roam freely.
I wanted to rest for a bit before doing anything as I had a great horrid sunburn from walking 8km to the campsite under the sun! But as soon as I rested, Shaolin megat came to sit with me and decided that sitting on me was preferable to sitting beside me. I did not have the heart to push him away and so he sat, napped, yawned and slept on me for about 1.5 hours. Finally I had to push him off and of course he sat close to me for the other 30 minutes! He finally fell asleep by himself and I was able to get something to eat from the kitchen. But of course this did not last long :)

Changing of the guard?
One of these days I think there will be a changing of the guard. I do not know if I would like it but its inevitable. I do not think Bujang has the skills to cope with Megat. Megat chases him about and he runs like the wind. But he is not as stressed as before and could relax a little even when Megat is out of the cage and is not jealous when Megat sits with me. I think he knows that when Megat sits with me, Megat would not be chasing anyone :)
The other kitties know that too so they would just sit about quietly. I think the only kitty that Megat will not be able to dominate over is Ms Akira. But then she knows her business and is not afraid of a mere male cat no matter what he does. :)

MEOWRRROWWRRR
It finally happened. Toro and Megat had a big face-off and fur flew in the air, mostly Toro's fur. I had let Megat out for the night so he could do his toilette and walk around a bit. I had to put him in his cage earlier as he had tried to re-arrange Toro's pretty face. But after 1.5 hours, I thought it was enough time in the cage and being ignored by all and sundry.
When I released him, he came to sit with me at the computers and then he decided to take a walk. Before long, I heard a great MEOWRRROWWRRR. I ran out just in time to see Megat pawing furiously at Toro's face. I had a horrible vision of Toro losing his pretty blue eyes. Toro just stayed put and tried to put his face down to avoid the claws (that was cut just this afternoon). So I just yelled at them to stop and Megat immediately ran under the bed.
I inspected Toro's face and saw no injuries except his pride probably but of course there was grey fur all over the place! We had a quiet chat and I gave him some scritches and hugs and he quietened down for a bit. Then after I released Toro, Shaolin Megat came to sit by me. Irrepressible Toro came to peer at him quietly and then left.
I told Megat that I had no choice but to put him back in his cage as I had work to do and could not keep an eye on all of them.
Bujang was quite horrified and I could see his big round eyes staring at us in fear! Poor thing Bujang. But after about 15 minutes when he saw that all was calm, he calmed down enough to relax and closed his eyes. Ms Akira looked at us in her usual long-suffering way before settling in te middle of the living room to rest; her point made. :)
Right now, all is calm on the cat front and Megat has fallen asleep in his cage with his toy cat Garfield :)

That smells familiar
Megat still remembers his days of eating fish and rice and all kinds of human food :) I was having lunch at the low table. Its the usual fare of rice and vegetables and fish. In no time at all Shaolin Megat scooted under the table and stood close to me sniffing. Then he licked his lips and sniffed again. I was afraid he would jump onto the table and told him to behave himself as he had had his lunch. Megat stared at me for a minute or two and then decided he would stay put. But he didn't stop sniffing :)
I guess it did take a whale of an effort for such a kitty to stay put and it was quite admirable that he could control himself thus. Of course the penalty for climbing onto the table when people are eating is - the black cage and lesser time roaming the house. I hope he remembers these lessons but its a very long haul.

I like computers too
I must say Megat is taking to indoor life very well indeed. He behaves himself very well and tries to adjust to the others quickly. I do not know if he has figured out that it is best to try to live with the others or he just does not want to be caged for longer than he has to be, which is at night.
Ms Akira was very surprised to see Megat on my lap at the computers tonight. She stopped in her tracks and watched him carefully but did not try to beat him at all. When she saw that he had no intention of getting off, she left to find alternate roosting sites.
I think he may be a lap cat in his other life. He is also getting fat and eating his renal diet steadily. But he still does not like it as much as he does his Natural Balance. So I have to mix the 2 diets together. Only then will he eat what he is supposed to. He does eat it dry though but I read that it is not wise to feed old cats only dry biscuits as it may lead to urinary tract problems.

Friendship...in pictures
It looks like Toro and Megat are on the way to some kind of friendship. I hope it will develop into something nice like what Bujang and ms Akira have between them :))

Its a miracle...
I think all the days of putting Megat in the cage and allowing him to go out slowly is paying off. The kitties are not the best of friends yet and I don't think they ever will be but at least they are willing to give it a chance, especially Toro. If anyone could make friends with Shaolin Megat, then Toro would be the one, being young and exuberant.
I do not know how it happened but Megat and Toro spent some time playing with each other and running helter-skelter about the house. Megat even tried to entice Toro into playing by trying to touch him and running off. I suppose that was a sign for 'catch me if you can.' :) So to the tune of their ringing bells, they did exactly that - play catch.
His self-confidence growing, Megat has also given the toys a go and had a good time spinning the ball with the two boys watching him., Bujang wide-eyed with disbelief and Toro with mild interest. :)

As if all this was not incredible enough, Megat did not take offence when Toro playfully tried to touch him from behind the curtains. Megat did not rear up on his hindlegs to show his Shaolin prowess.
I am quite gleeful that this has happened but I know it may be just a flash in the pan. But as long as no one is trying to murder each other, I am quite contented.
Now, if only Bujang would relax for a bit. :))

Peace to all and cats too
After you teach that no-good kitty a lesson, you must compose yourself...This afternoon, all the kitties were up and about. Even Shaolin Megat had some time for R&R out of his cage. He did not rear on his hind legs when Toro brushed past him. He merely looked at TunaBelly and decided to keep the peace. Toro and him were in close proximity several times under the table but he did not pay attention to Toro. He merely glanced at Toro and groomed himself.
Ms Akira got tired of being alone in the bedroom under her mountain of blankets and decided to take a slow stroll to see what the rest was up to. She actually deigned to sit by me eventhough Megat was in full view. She sat and yawned and looked about, feigning ignorance I believe. When Megat made a slow move to gently sniff at her- POW! The slap from her little paw was as qucik as lightning. One slap was all it took to get Megat back onto his duck-feathered cushion all over again. Once again Megat did not try to beat her up or to show who's Boss. He has either learnt his lesson or just waiting for an opportunity to get power over all of the kitties.
Bujang was of course above all this fray and sat in his basket in the sky looking at the birds and falling asleep. I have yet to see how the both of them would react when they actually come face to face.
All in all, it seems everyone has relaxed somewhat. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Ask us tomorrow and tomorrow
Front row seats. The 3 kitties all rushed to the grills this morning when they heard a very loud 'Caw! Caw!" from outside the flat. I think the crows are flying in search of a bit of dry land for shelter. The jury is still out as to what happened to the crow but I think they are getting used to the idea of having Megat in the house as at this moment, I had let Megat out of his cage to walk about.
Please let ME be the judge of that, thank you...Ms Akira is still not used to the idea of having Megat in the house. She has come to peer at him quite often when he is in the cage and has sniffed at him several times. Megat has never snarled at her when he is inside his cage and only once did he hiss at her when he is out. She has taken to throwing up these days but I do not know if this time, it is nervousness like before or just the new avoderm biscuits she has been eating.
The sun will still shine whether he is here or not...Bujang is taking the situation a little better. He has sniffed at Megat and even walked close to his cage without flinching. I think the idea of giving them treats near each other is working. This morning. I let Megat out and gave them all treats together. No one fought each other, although Bujang made sure he was on the table and quite far away from Megat. He has not cowered under the small table like before.
But I think I could not let Megat have the run of the house yet. On Saturday, I let Megat out in the afternoon until about 8 and today Megat was out in the morning. I had to put him in his cage as he tried to intimidate Toro once again. I let him out for dinner and now he is in his cage so resting on Garfield - the orange cat. Everyone is resting Sunday away quite peacefully. Megat has yet to try anything seriously with Bujang. I hope it stays that way as Bujang is very sensitive and takes everything to heart.

I think he should go as he is a great bully! The only one who is truly friendly to Megat is Toro. He is interested in everything that has to do with Megat and sits in the kitchen with us when I feed Megat his dinner, when I feed him his vitamins and finally when I wipe him down. I think he wants to be friends. Megat however has tried frighten him twice (but with only 1 raised foreleg) and once tried to hit him with his paw. Needless to say I had to put Megat back in his cage each and every time - patience, persistence and consistency :) The good thing is there are no more tricky Shaolin tricks. I hope it stays this way for some time.
Whatever it is, I think Megat will have to stay much longer in his cage and I see a slow process of integration. I need the kitties to be a little more comfortable with the idea having a new cat in the house with them. Better to be slow and steady than chaos again I think.
