Vet Visits II

Bujang was very angry at the vet. He growled several times at everyone after the vet took his temperature so we did not do the blood test nor did the vet manage to trim his nails. I did not think it was wise to antagonise him any further. He is healthy and his teeth are all okay. He is overweight! Oh dear! he is now 8.2kg!! I think THAT is massive for a cat, even though he is big-boned and well-muscled like Bujang.
Dr H took one look at Ms Akira and told me that she did not look as though she had any trouble. I told him that the problem was her abdomen and her legs! If you look at MS Akira from above, she looks glossy and her fur is soft but her abdomen tells another story!
Dr H gave her 0.25 injection of Depredil and told me to monitor her for about 2 weeks. If she over grooms less, this means she is allergic to the food and we would have to give her hypoallergenic kibble. He suspects that she is allergic to some thing in her food. He also gave us Clomicalm, an anti-depressant for her obsessive behaviour but we are KIVing that. Dr H said the anti-depressant would take about 3 weeks before we see anything. I have begun to allow Bujang to hang out with her at night since he is the only one she can tolerate and who does not harass her. I think it would be good for her to have another cat to hang out with, so whenever she hangs out, Bujang would be there too. the other boys are sequested in the bedroom, away from her so she can relax.
The only cal kitty at the vet was Tanaka. He was interested and did not flinch when the vet took his temperature :). He is 4.5 kg, which Dr L (who saw both the boys today) said was a very good weight - not underweight nor overweight, just the right weight :). He got his vaccination and had a little fever. He is now resting in bed. The only problem with him is that he has a lot of stool in his intestines! He really hates taking meds so I think it would be a problem giving him pumpkin.

All in all, everyone had a good result at the vet. In the case of Ms Akira, at least we are trying something. Maybe acupuncture is the way to go...hmmm

Vet Verdict for Totoro

Totoro's vet visit was a mixture of good and not so good. The blood test was good apart from the 2.5 indiactor for creatinine. He is well-hydrated and his PCV is 35.5 5. The US was good and bad. His left kidney is stable but his right kidney has more stones although it is less dilated than before (4.6 compared to the previous 5.6). Dr S said that the dilation was the more major thing to look out for and as his kidney is less dilated now, that is a cause for celebration. The really good news is that all his other organs are fine and his bladder is clear of sand and his urethra is also clear. However, 2 of his kidney stones have increased from 5 mm to 6 mm! Dr S was very positive and she said he is ok and if nothing else happens (like blood in his urine) he should be back for a review in 6 months.
Dr Ly was pleased that he is stable and gave him an additional pill - a Urinary Acidifier to try to dissolve his crystals as we do not know for sure if his crystals are struvite or oxalate. He said it would not impact his kidneys in any way but it may allow us some conclusions. We have to come back in 2 months for an US to see if the crystals have dissolved. If not, then at least we know they're not struvite crystals and take it from there. I am willing to try this as the pill is very small and we could go forward from here.

Megat's Review

I dun think I want to go there any time soon san...
Megat's blood test

The indicators are all good I'm glad to know. His kidneys are not in any trouble with Crea being at 1.5 (0.3-2.1) and BUN at 26 (10-30). His GLU is 145 but Dr L was not concerned. The blood test was done on CHEM8. Dr L instructed his assistant to teach all the nurses how to use it and he said that he wanted it to be used in surgeries. It was very fast and I saw the whole thing in the consultation room. His PCV, which CHEM8 also measures is 34% (29%-53%). However Dr L gave him an anabolic steroid laurabolin for his kidneys and liver.

Dr L listened to his lungs and reported that only his left lung has a a little wheeze and so he told me we should maintain his asthma homeo meds. Thank goodness!

Dr L saw him and was pleased at all his indicators. "This is not a sick cat," he said but cautioned me that I should bring him back in 4 months for his next review. Btw Megat is now 4.56 kg! No wonder Cousin R said her arms feel numb every time she has to help us with the meds :)

All in all, Megat and I were very pleased with the reviwe.

Vet's verdict on SB

I'm MALE. Can you please change my name!

So the doc said SB is male. I wonder if there is a male banshee or only females :) He is more than 10 years old. I think he is as old as my block of flats! He has lost many teeth and the doc had to extract one more rotten one. No wonder he did not like the Nutro but would eat some Avoderm. Doc H also said there is no need for the FIV check as an old cat would need many more tests for other kinds of illness. He must truly be a very hardy cat to have survived so long.

So the doc would tip his ear and tattoo him and treat his mites.
