 He came to sniff at us some of the time.

 His mum tried to get him to sit with us as we were his previous caregivers when he was a commcat, but we knew knew everyone should take it slow as he might not want to remember his life then as well. he stayed here for a bit.

 And was up here, looking at us from a safe distance. We didn't want to make a fuss and even when he was a commcat, he was an alpha and didnt like fussing as well.

He finally decided we were ok and sat with us for a few minutes.

The last week of December has not been kind to Cody (who was adopted by Constance 3.5 years ago). His mum found him early one morning, about 4 ish am, unable to walk. Horrified she brought down his carrier and he immediately crawled into it without being carried inside. She knew right then that he was in a serious state and brought him to the specialist vets. After investigations, they found blood clots in his kidneys and veins. He was given a thinner and the next day fortunately the clots resolved itself but he was hospitalised for the week. They found an enlarged heart. He was not eating much. 

His blood tests showed that his kidneys were fine and there was nothing else that was wrong so his mum brought him home with medication, a blood thinner and diuretics. His mum is still waiting for his sonagram to bring him for a second opinion. 

He has now begun eating again, now that he has been home for about 2 weeks and is re-learning how to interact with his fursister Halley and his human brother. 

We visited him at his home yesterday and he looked very well, albeit thinner. He used to have muscles and now we could feel his bones much more clearly. His mum is trying to fatten him up again.  He looked really well and was walking about the house. He also showed us that he could eat a lot more as he had his 2nd dinner when we were there. Although his doctors could not tell us how long he will stay with us, with his heart problems, both human and cats are just taking it slow.

Then and Now Sunday

Today we thought we will show where our commcats are with their adopted families. At present we have 2 cats.

This is Cody aka Jeffrey. He was adopted by Constance in 2015 when he was already about 10 years old.

This is Cody with his 3 month old brother. His mom Constance waited until his brother was about 3 before introducing them. Cody is a cool big brother and loves his little brother very much.

This is Ren who came to us at about 4 weeks. She boarded with one of our friends and went for a trial adoption in the middle of August. The trial, which was supposed to be for only 2 weeks stretched to 1.5 months. I was afraid they would decide that she was not for them as she would be heartbroken but last Friday, they signed the adoption papers. Hurray and congrats Ren and Cody.

In other news: Jeffrey Boy

Yes I am back and I _AM_NOT_GOING into any other carrier again. I just want to tell you this!

We brought Jeffrey Boy back on Tuesday 1 May. He got sick at the sanctuary and went to the clinic twice for flu. Then he recuperated away from here but as he was getting better, we brought him home. The vet said his flu acted up as he was stressed when we took him away from his carpark. He was not happy at the shelter and so all of us (the caregiver included) thought he should just come back home.  When he got back, he recce'd his territory carefully and the next day we saw him lounging about at his usual place. On the downside, the grey female kitty who shares the territory is making herself scarce so feeding her in the evening is more difficult as we sometimes have to look for her.

Visiting Jeffrey Boy

Jefrey Boy has been down with the flu for about 2 weeks. I was quite horrified as he was well and healthy when he left to go to the shelter but it seemed he was very stressed out and so his immune system had to cope with that. He has been under rain etc living in the carpark and so the vet said his immunity could have been compromised even before he went to the shelter. R, the one who is now taking care of him brought him to this clinic. It is a small pratice but when we were there, we saw 2 people coming in with community cats. The doc was very kind to everyone and even bought a bicycle light for one of the caregivers as she goes to U to feed the cats at night!

Jeffery has swollen tonsils and a sore throat. He was beought in as he had alot of mucus and was not able to eat. So he is on antibiotics and fluids. When we went to see him he was much better and ate his slurry a little. The vet was pleased with his progress and told us that he should be out of boarding as he hates being in the cages and so close to barking dogs!

He sat with us for a bit and even tried to groom himself although not so well as he his throat was still sore. She advised us to conisder taking him back home where he would be more comfortable as he knows his territory. So we decided to let him recuperate at the shelter until his throat is better and he is more able to eat by himself. Then we would bring him home and try to relocate him here although I think he would finally find his way back to his old haunt. I decided to tell one of his caregivers to get his fans to help him be safe - get him off cars when they see him so he knows that he would not be allowed to rest on any car. This would seem to be the better idea. I spoke to at least 2 persons and I know these 2 persons would talk to the others so maybe he would be safe. We just have to keep a sharper eye out for him!

This is Fortune and he is a STAR here :) He has many fans and gets food from everyone. I like this practice and the vet is very kind and talks to Jeffery kindly. She also was kind to the old caregiver and so maybe we would bring our community cats here as they have boarding services and this is important for community cats who need to recuperate.
