We thought we would begin our Sunday post with a short update on Putih. After her very short outside adventure, we had made sure that she is not at the door when we are watering the plants. But of course she gets to walk about at other times when I am at home to supervise everyone. The boys have been very good at their promise of leaving her alone and would only look at her from where they were, which is always away from the door. Tanaka especially has been very restrained and merely hissed at her a little when she tried to enter the bedroom when he was at the door. Bujang of course has been very good and had ignored her movements. He was not offended when she hissed at him while he was resting on the shelves or near the window. He merely ignored her and continued to nap. She has begun to explore the house again and even went into the other litter boxes although she had used any of them. She had only commandeered the one in the kitchen which no other kitty uses anymore. She has a litter bin in her cage but prefers the one in the kitchen. There has been no more screaming or chasing but maybe that is because I made sure the boys are safely away from the door. Akira has seen her walking about but I made sure that she is safely in the cat hammock or sitting at the cat gym before I let Putih out. I thought it better that they get used to seeing her walking about and she sees that they mean her no harm before I let them mingle more. This has been her second month in the house. I heard that it takes at least 8 months for a cat to get used to another living space!
The kitties themselves have been resting quite a lot. Tanaka is the only one who is always on the lookout for her. Here he was on the bed while Putih was exploring the room. Although curious he was not stressed out. Akira has been spending much more time outside but her overgrooming is as bad as ever and she has broken through some skin although not too badly. Bujang has had a quiet time of walks downstairs and upstairs. Putih told Fern that she thinks Akira is a pampered kitty while she reaslised that Bujang has a 'special position ' in the house. I think if Bujang remains calm it would serve as an example to others as well...I hope.
If is such a lengthy process to adapt to change. And even with kitties who have grown up together, it isn't always perfect. For example, we occasionally have terrible fights here between Tama and Bibi, even though they are mother and son!
ReplyDeletePurrs,
The Chans
Flare-ups are not uncommon even among cats who are on good terms for years.
ReplyDeleteSome meds can cause mood swings and make pets grouchy or even aggressive/defensive.
Stay well and days to be uneventful. ; D
Dear ones, keep well and I hope in a much shorter time than months and months, you will all be peaceful with one another. xxoo
ReplyDeleteWe have our paws and fingers crossed that everything stays calmer...we too have occasional fights; in fact this morning The Baby was sporting a deep wound on her ear.
ReplyDelete*sigh*
We are pleased to hear that Putih seems to be settling in and the others are slowly coming around to accepting her. Everyone trying to find their place. Meow from Jessica
