This is an old picture of Megat - taken in March of this year. We will try to get newer pictures of him this evening.
Megat had one round of vincristine last Thursday as the vet said there may be some tumours lingering in him from before. It seems even if the ultra sound is clean, there is no assurance that he is clear. But he did not do well with this round of vincristine and so we have decided (Megat and I) that we will not do any more vincristine.
Having spoken to Dr Lalani and other cat parents, I decided that we will just work on the constipation problems as well as the appetite issues. He has just begun to eat a little for dinner yesterday and even this morning, he had tried to eat some. However I had to continue feeding him by hand for the past months and I am so happy that he had finished his kibble last night.
So the plan is to just allow him to 'observe, rest and relax' and enjoy his days in peace. A 17 year old kitty deserves at least that much :)
These decisions are so difficult, aren't they? We are glad that you and Megat have such a loving relationship, and that you have chosen to take each day as the blessing it is.

Our 17yr old cat has appetite and constipation problems like Megat. Ultra scan showed a bit of IBD and he has an acid-blocker. It helps. He has papaya/pumpkin/lactose to soften his stools as he is unable to poo naturally (2 yrs) due to his very weak anal sphinter muscles and need an enema every other day. When he is "cleared", cat has better appetite. Enema is never pleasant for cat but unsuccessful straining is just as bad. Hope Megat finds a good solution to digestion/defecation problem. We have same decision abt staying on vincristine w Freckles. Freckles showed no visible side effects to mthly vincristine but there surely must be some. Will arrange for a Body Talk to seek Freckles' view if Freckles would 'talk'. We give thanks every day for our old cats and understand the same concerns as you do. Hang in there Megat.

i know you have thought long and hard before making this decision. it is never easy in humans, for ourselves and for our loved ones, even harder for a pet. we will purr for you and megat. cat aunty
