Saturday at home

Yesterday Rezki told Fern that he was afraid that I might not love him. I was thinking about that and thought possibly it’s because I keep telling him to leave the others alone when he disturbs their rest. Possibly it’s time to think about what happens to a cat like this in a houseful of senior cats. I had thought of rehoming him to a house with younger cats so he can play with cats that has the  same level of energy now that his kidneys are fine. Then I think that perhaps that would be foolish as he is used to us and he has worked very hard to be where he is. And not many people would send him to acupuncture nor do tcm and reiki. Also he would be truly upset if he has to go. I would need to rethink my strategy to integrate him into senior family life.

Finally Friday Family

I was just looking at some pictures from 2015 and came across this set of pictures or blog headers that I had over the years and the cats that came and went to the bridge. I started this blog in 2005, and we are now about 12 years old. Many of the Singapore bloggers have stopped blogging and went into FB and such. I myself now have a FB page when I started to do rescue and adoption with Jeffrey Boy, now Cody. But increasingly I have thought of friends far and near who have lost many cats and dogs and even hamsters and one tortoise. I thought it would be nice to see my family as well. This is surprisingly not a sad journey (I thought I would be much sadder)  but I am glad for each and every kitty that I used to have and still have.
My Rainbow cat Megat-Miracle cat, Ms Akira, Rainbow Totoro TunaBelly, Chairman Bujang and Scamp Tanaka

Then when 2 of the family went to the bridge, we just had Chairman Bujang, Ms Akira, and Scamp Tanaka
In 2014, a new family member joined us. So we became Mellow-Yellow Tanaka, Chairman Bujang, Ms Akira and Big Sister Popsicle Poppy.
and as of 2016, we are now 5 again with Super Assistant Popps, Big Brother Tanaka, The Chairman Bujang, Warrior Cat Akira who found her groove back and of course Secret Agent Rezki.

I am glad that I have them all, past and present.

Whatcha lookin at then?

Popps was not pleased that Rez decided to sit near her. She stared at him calmly but Rez didn’t like it.

A close-up of Rez’s face and eyes. He was on  the alert. These two are so funny together. Both were  ex-commcats and I know both were very good fighters. They would not have survived if they were not able to fight back. Popps was bitten by a gang of younger male cats looking for territory and Rez had to fight off an older intact male whom we have yet to catch and sterilise. He is a wild one.

Thankful Sunday

We have removed the child gates from the study. This is because Rez now has access to all parts of the house throughout the day like the rest of the kitties. We have allowed him out early for the whole week and apart from some incidents of misplaced enthusiasm, he had done very well.

He likes to spend the day in my bedroom just chilling out.

This open window seat is his favourite place. It reminded me of Popps when she was first allowed the whole house. She also spent most of her time in the bedroom. The bedroom is quiet and yet smells of all the cats so she feels part  of the house.

Rez still sleeps in the kitchen as Popps does not allow him to sleep in the study at night as it ‘belongs to (her)’. Rez still eats in the study behind temporary gates that we remove once breakfast or dinner is over and he gets to walk about the house and play. I hope we don’t have to instal the baby gates again.

Vet Check

Rezki sound asleep after his ordeal at the vet this morning.

We went to get Rez his blood test this morning. He missed his year end test in 2017 as the vet tech was not about then.

It was surprisingly good and his kidneys seemed to have done really well. His creatinine was 2.1 from 2.7 last June. His BUN was a little higher but still within normal range. The vet was as surprised as myself and we think it’s his diet and his ability to drink more water than the rest. I also spoke about his raw diet of kangaroo, venison and chicken. The vet said the raw diet could also have contributed to this change as well although the previous recommendation was for him to be on a dry renal diet.

He screamed and yelled at the vet’s when they had to take his blood. Last year they had to sedate him for his test but this year he did not have to be sedated at all. After the vet took his blood he sat down and was quiet as though nothing had happened.

He is really a Jekyll and Hyde.

The Rezki Report

I have made a lot of progress with my brothers and sisters. I have learnt to leave all girls alone and to tread carefully around them. Three weeks ago I had done a meet and greet with my brother Tanaka. We touched noses for a bit. Tanaka told Fern that he was curious about how I smell and I told  Fern that he is my brother and I was glad to do it. We can now sit together and I play less roughly with him although San tells me I should quit the slapping.

All of us had also done some work with Craig. Craig is also a reiki master and helps us to settle our issues. It was only after Craig had done work with both Tanaka and I together in a shared session that Tanaka and I have understood each other more. That was when we had done the meet and greet.

B: San told me through Fern that maybe it would be good for me to talk with Rezki more since he likes being with me. I find him too bold for my liking. Last week Rezki shared some stories about his adventures and I found them interesting. So we have been talking more. But I still want him to go slowly and to really stop wth the slapping.

I can’t help it sometimes as they boys are such old fogeys and they only want to sleep. I am a more get-up-and-go kind of kitty.

A cold front

These few days saw Singapore freezing and last Thursday the weather actually hit an all time low of 21 degrees. San has taken to wearing socks around the house but our auntie told her she should wear warmer slippers. San also put out a warmer rug for us near the family space as we like being there and San knows the floor is close to freezing (and we are near the Equator).

Bujang: Last night San put out all the blankets and when she was brushing her teeth I decided to sit on her blanket and Tanaka sat on mine. We left San with a smaller blanket but she didn’t mind that as I sat close to her to keep her warm. We had the fan on as San didn’t like the stuffiness in the room as we could not open the windows for the rain.

1st post of 2018

San nearly forgot to post our usual New Year entry. Luckily for her, I was the only cat that she took a picture of the whole of today. I wanted to see out the window as it was raining very hard and quite enjoyed the slight spray of the rain.
