An appointment with Mr Groomer

Bujang is going to the groomers today if I can get an appointment. It takes them 3 hours to get him all washed, shampooed, clean his ears and clip his nails. That does not include getting him really dry as he is a terror at the groomers. I forgot to call them up yesterday for the appointment. This is for them as much as for me as I have to get him into the carrier and then onto the stroller as he is too heavy to carry the distance. I have sprayed some honeysucke into the carrier and on his soft toy which he has tried to bite and finally left forlorn as he goes to investigate a beetle at the doorway.

  1. The toycat is of a substantial size. Does Bujang hold it in his mouth and walk around with it?

    Good luck to the groomers....

  2. No lah. He just bites and shakes it about. He has a glove of mine that he brings about with him when he feels like it. This toy is just so he feels okie at strange places because it has everyone's smell :) Anyway the groomers tell me there is no place for him today. He is one lucky cat. :) Next week he won't be so lucky.

  4. Hahaha. I was thinking that also. Everytime I go there with him I apologise first, then they say - never mind, it's the job. I smile and quickly run away until they call me. Then I profusely apologise cos they will show me their battle scars and Bujang of cos will be sitting quietly in the carrier as though he was not the one who had created all that trouble. :)

  5. Is Bujang so fierce that you are not able to groom him?

I once groomed a stranger unneutered Ragdoll before and he was really huge and fierce. Took us 2 hours to clip nails, brush and bath him (but no battle scars for us). He was such a terror that even his owners have never cuddled or pet him before. I think they were terrified of him. But he was a really nice cat actually. He let me cuddle him for a while after the bath. I think his owners just do not know how to soothe and tame a cat. Probably not true cat lovers. They just want a pure breed which looks good. Pity that fiesty fellow.

  6. Well he would allow me to clip only 1 paw before he tells me to stop. :) He would actually let me use the wipes on him in replacement of a bath. So usually after our walk, I would wipe him down and he is quite ok with that although he would try to walk away and I would just grip him or walk and wipe. I have never tried to clean his ears as he is a big guy and I am much too cowardly. :) So it's just his nails and ears really, cos the wet wipes for pets works really well so I don't really have to bathe him as he is an indoor cat.
But when I go to the groomers, then I would usually do the whole bit and because they are strangers I guess, he would misbehave terribly but they get the nails clipped and for a whole month its ok especially now since he is swiping Toro, although with his nail sheathed but not for long as he is thororugly irritated by the constant badgering.

  7. Heheh...interesting. So far, the most difficult and unpleasant task I've had to do for a cat is to apply ear mite treatment. I think it's one thing that cats hate the most, and the only thing that I can't do well by myself, and needs my SO to hold the cat down. MIL's cat would hate us afterwards and would run away whenever she sees both of us in the same room with her. We have to work for months to regain her trust. ;P
