Sometimes I fear for our sanity ...

san is making us all go to the vet for our end of year checkups. We were not pleased but she didn't seem to care for our feedback. We can only hope that the results were what she hoped for. We are getting on in years so she knew the numbers would not be as good as when we were kittens. 

She spent almost all of her December school vacation glued to the sofa watching tv. She said when January 2020 comes she would be too busy with school so we are cutting her some slack. She had one week in hospital because of a stroke from her irregular heartbeats and is on medication but she is ok now.  san says we are all growing old together except for Rez who is only 5 years old. But as long as we take care of ourselves we should be ok for many years. 

Only Popps is left and she would be going to the vet tomorrow. Please think kind thoughts about us :)

Wednesday with Popps

Popps likes looking at the corridor in the mornings as almost always there would be our frequent visitor, Mr Mynah bird. He comes and makes quite a racket and once had even entered our house (by mistake I hope). I had to put him outside hastily as a house with 5 cats is no place for  a bird, even one as gangsterish as this one. He sometimes comes in the afternoon lull to walk the corridor as well.

I was surprised to see Rez last night just lazing about here and wondered what he was trying to do. This was not his usual space. he sat here for some time and didn't move even when I took his pictures. I must say he was a very good model. Then I saw all the kitties lining up for night snacks :)

This pic was quite a surprise for me as well as he looked so healthy and well. He is already all of 16 this year and he was losing weight. He was down with some respiratory problems - constant sneezing and sometimes wheezing as well. He went for his checkup in June and there was nothing in his tests that suggested he was sick. His creatinine levels were good and the xray of his back showed that he was not suffering any additional stresses on his spine. However his sneezing continued to alarm me and the antibiotics the vet gave him was not helping. 

A good friend of ours, Nisa, helped us with this as she also had a cat with the same problems and her vet had recommended that she used a nebuliser with 10 cc of sodium chloride solution. The steam was supposed to dislodge the dried up mucus in his nose and clear his chest.  I am glad to report that he has been on the nebuliser for about a month and I've reduced the frequency of use from twice a day to once a day. We also have the air purifier with the HEPA filter as well. He is doing so much better and has been getting quality sleep as well. 

He also gets one cooked egg white for protein in his breakfast and dinner. He eats that with his canned food as he does not eat raw at all and does not like freeze dried food as well. So he gets 1/2 of a 85g can plus the cooked egg white, his cosequin  (for his arthritis) and his Kidney herbal supplements. He eats them all without fuss. Of cos these days he gets food 3 times a day as well. He has bulked up a little and is a happier kitty overall. 

These days I do not bring him out on his stroller for a walk as we have been having a long spell of hot weather plus the haze. Not the best weather for walking for anyone.

This morning before he left for home Peanut decided to play with Tanaka one last time. He figured out how to get onto the cat gym last night and this morning he quickly chased Tanaka up the cat gym. He was unstoppable. We will miss him.

We have not been blogging much this week as we have a guest kitty. san's friend asked if we can take care of her 2.5 month kitty for a bit and san said yes. We told san that we were already crowded and we didn't have space but she said its ok since it was only for a week. we promised san that we will also chip in but we are cats and we didn't intend to do as we promised.

When the kitty came we hissed a bit and Akira slapped him when he went too near her. Even Rez was afraid of the new kitty and he kept to himself for 2 whole days in the room until san made him come outside and even then  he hid in the bedroom. san was surprised as Rez is the gangsta kitty but I guess he was not so brave after all.

Only I, Bujang, was not afraid and although I hissed at him I did not beat him up and we nose kissed a little so I allowed him to sit with me in my stroller and even gave him space to look at the scenery. He behaved well and I had to discipline him twice only. 

He is very small and likes to jump and play. He eats and drinks milk a lot and he is already bigger than when he first came. I hope his mama would not mind getting a fatter kitty when she picks him up tomorrow. His name is Peanut. I don't think I like that name at all.

san is looking for Totoro as he said he was already here for a few months already. But of cos he didn't give any clues and only said that "mama will know". san thinks he should do better! So san is cat-sittng as before Megat came to our house, but san sent him away to boarding and now he is living with another family. san is thankful as his new family loves him and treats him well eventhough he is now female and called Ren. At least san gave him the name.

Finally Friday

and finally we're at the park. Its Friday and san's one week break is here. We went out early, at about 7ish this morning. It was cool and there were not many people as most were at work. We went around the park and sat looking at people exercising. A few joggers stopped to talk to us as well. We had a quiet time at the park. We saw a chubby doggie peeing on the grass but he didn't stop to chat as he was busy sniffing around. His person was also jogging and so he ran after her but he was on leash for which we were glad as its a public park and next to a very busy road.

Rez up to his shenanigans again

Rezki is very good at playing pretend. I don't know where he got this particular skill from as he was a commcat before he came to live with us. Almost always he would be the one who would sneak on someone and without warning slap them  or he would just beat on the cubby repeatedly to the disgust of the kitty in it. Then as though he had done nothing wrong, he would move away or sit and pretend that all is right with the world.

In this picture, he came up onto the red chair and meditated whether it was worth his while to slap Bujang. But I saw him and called him name REZKI lou enough for Bujang to hear. He stiffened and decided just for that time, he would sit quietly and pretended to be looking at me instead. He is a real rascal and he wonders why no one wants to play with him.

Our new banner

san decided that we should just have a banner that represents (sort of) us. ALso our colours are similar apart from Akira. From left : Rezki (black) with lady bug, Popps (white) with a camera, Bujang (Tux)  with a crown, Akira  (not actually like her as she is tri-colour but still) with the label Be Kind and Tanaka (ginger) with the big heart. san thought maybe if you do not know us well, you might be puzzled as to why san has all these pictures.

Rezki likes bugs and chases them all over the house. Also san says Rezki is like a bug that disturbs all of us even now. His eyes are naughty as he sometimes slaps Bujang when Bujang is asleep but he never slaps any of the girls as he is afraid of them. 

Popps has a camera as she is very pretty and when she is at acupuncture, many people want to take her picture. Even our acupuncturist Dr O had used her as a model several times when he has to takes pictures of himself massaging a cat as she is calm and won't bite him (unlike Rezki).

Bujang has a crown cos he is BOSS but not bossy as he knows everyone will give way (except Rezki)

Akira has the medal Be Kind as once san asked Akira what she desires most in our family. She said she is a kind cat and she wants everyone to be kind to one another so everyone would feel loved.

Tanaka has the big heart and arms extended as he loves san and would kiss her all day long if he could. Also Tanaka is a loving cat as we all love him and he does not know how to be unkind although when he was younger he was naughty and used to chase Akira. Now of cos Akira loves him and protects him from Rezki. So he has learnt to be kind to others as well.

Cody this year 2019

Cody passed this morning. He had a lot of health issues which began last year with his heart. He had 2 relapses but got a little better. But he caught the flu and his body could not cope with the effects. However we were glad that he was with his family when he passed and he had a few good years with Constance, his mom whom he loved to bits. We will see you again Cody but for now, run free and fly high.

Sunday in the park

This morning we went out early as it would get too hot even before 10 am. We had not gone out for two weeks as the Hungry Ghost month meant that there was a lot of smoke and ashes in the air and this would not be good for anyone, much less Bujang. This morning however, there was not even a trace of candles or offerings along the street. It was as though everything was taken away by the wandering ghosts to bring back home. The park itself was rather bare as the weather had been very unforgiving but we saw the usual people and the kitties had a good time people watching.

The Usual Suspects

For today I thought we should formally introduce ourselves again as we have been away from blogging for many months. san said from April and now its the last day of August. Today is also our new year (for the muslim calendar) but we're cats so we don't really make a fuss about what humans do. I have not been well for a whole year and had been having some troubles with my respiratory system. Antibiotics did not work and only my osteopath Dr L  was able to help me but that would only be for a short while. san's friends on FB read about my plight and came to help me with a nebuliser and sodium chloride. It helped to clear my nose and I could sleep better. But I told Fern that the steam was 'annoying' me so I told san that. I will try to sit quietly as san said it would be easier on me but I do not promise.

 I am going to be 13 this year and am feeling ok. I don't have much trouble except san has been trying to get me to eat more. I am 4.2 kg and the vet said I am ok but san wants me to be fatter. It seems everyone is bigger than I am even Rez. Rez is like a giant of the house. I just have to have subQ once a week but that is no biggie and I know how to relax once the needle is in. Yesterday I had some trouble with my sister Popps and she was not happy when I tried to sniff her. I told Fern its because she 'smells nice' like san. But now I know better than to sniff at such a bad -tempered sister.

I am no longer wearing my cone which makes me happier and now I also sleep outside of my cage. I am less nervous and can walk about at night. san opens my cage door so I can make my own decisions as to where I want to sleep. I am feeling much better except for the small problem of my heart murmur. But I am seeing a cardiologist so san says we will be ok. 

 I just need more 'space' and don't like male cats sniffing at me. That is such rude behaviour and I will always tell them so. Who says they can sniff at me as and when they like? Phffffbt!

I am now part of the family and have learnt to behave myself much better. san bought me a nice gym that I race up and down on but I only use it when no one is looking. I tried to tell san that I was just curious as to why Popps was always yelling at me and why she was angry. That  was why I came near her but she didn't want to talk to me or anything. She is so bad-tempered!

Thursday with Bujang

We are here after a long time. We apologise (again) for our tardiness here. san bought us a new sleep pod in red as she knows its my favourite colour. But only the boys use this pod. I dont know why the girls don't like it but more time for us....YAY

Just Because

Finally I am here in the blog. I have been very well and have grown some new fur, much to the delight of the humans in the house. But san says its still much too slow and she asked me to take it slow with the pulling of fur. I told her I will think about it.

san decided that we should all wear our chinese new year finery this year. We wish everybody good cheer and good luck, especially good health to one and all. Yes she took some time coming up with our card and we were all pleased as we didn't have to pose for new photos.

Just Because

This is my firs hello for 2019...

I will be 15 this year and I have slowed down a bit. However I am very well and the vet decided that I did not need my twice weekly SubQ until after Chinese New Year when san brings the rest of us to the vet. My end of year health check was done last December before my vet and san went on holiday. The vet was pleased with my health and my kidneys. I am not out of the woods yet but my readings indicated 'normal'. Hurrah!

All the vet staff wished me well and told me that they didn't want me at the vet at all and so I have to drink more water. I will try.

 He came to sniff at us some of the time.

 His mum tried to get him to sit with us as we were his previous caregivers when he was a commcat, but we knew knew everyone should take it slow as he might not want to remember his life then as well. he stayed here for a bit.

 And was up here, looking at us from a safe distance. We didn't want to make a fuss and even when he was a commcat, he was an alpha and didnt like fussing as well.

He finally decided we were ok and sat with us for a few minutes.

The last week of December has not been kind to Cody (who was adopted by Constance 3.5 years ago). His mum found him early one morning, about 4 ish am, unable to walk. Horrified she brought down his carrier and he immediately crawled into it without being carried inside. She knew right then that he was in a serious state and brought him to the specialist vets. After investigations, they found blood clots in his kidneys and veins. He was given a thinner and the next day fortunately the clots resolved itself but he was hospitalised for the week. They found an enlarged heart. He was not eating much. 

His blood tests showed that his kidneys were fine and there was nothing else that was wrong so his mum brought him home with medication, a blood thinner and diuretics. His mum is still waiting for his sonagram to bring him for a second opinion. 

He has now begun eating again, now that he has been home for about 2 weeks and is re-learning how to interact with his fursister Halley and his human brother. 

We visited him at his home yesterday and he looked very well, albeit thinner. He used to have muscles and now we could feel his bones much more clearly. His mum is trying to fatten him up again.  He looked really well and was walking about the house. He also showed us that he could eat a lot more as he had his 2nd dinner when we were there. Although his doctors could not tell us how long he will stay with us, with his heart problems, both human and cats are just taking it slow.

I was quite surprised to see Rez sleeping so soundly. he didn't even blink an eye when I took this picture. He would usually open one eye to make sure that I was not doing anything fishy like making him take his meds. He even snored...poor thing. Must have been really tired trying to stalk Tanaka and was stalked instead by Akira.
