Bujang's Vet Visit 2015

Bujang had his end of year review this morning. He had to be sedated as his osteopath had requested an X-ray of his lower back.

His kidneys needed more looking after as his creatinine values had increased to 2.6. But the vet said it was not alarming and could be managed by twice weekly Sub Qs (if he allows it) and the addition of Fortekor, in pill form.

It would be close to impossible to pill him and I was quite anxious. I went to see his acupuncturist who gave me an additional 2 herbs which I can try to put in his food. The acupuncturist, Dr Oh, is also a vet. He said if Bujang can take all his herbs, in the right proportion, it should reduce his values for his creatinine as the new herbs also take care of the toxins in his system.  If he eats his TCM, all of them, he does not have to take his Fortekor.

I told Dr Oh that we will try to include the new herbs slowly into his diet so he would not refuse his food. The more immediate worry was whether he would allow me to give him the Sub Q gracefully. If not I would have to bring him to the vet and he would not like that at all.

His X-Ray showed that there was indeed some wear and tear of his spine but the vet said it was just 'old age' and the fact that he was getting older. The other surprising thing was that his lowest right rib is thinner than his left. The vet did not have any explanation for this though.

So the news is not so good but not very bad either as we can do some things to try to help him through this.
